"The name Beverwijk comes from Bedevaartswijk, meaning "pilgrimage neighbourhood". Is there a source for this? This seems surprising considering that bever is the direct dutch word for beaver, the animal (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Proto-Germanic/bebruz). The similarly named dutch settlement of Beverwijck that later became Albany, New York (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Beverwijck) was named after the beaver fur trade of the time. 2604:6000:1109:204A:A4A3:8D4E:7227:33F5 (talk) 00:02, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

current name for this city

[edit]

I really don't know, but I have a feeling Albany New York is incorrect. 71.114.153.43 (talk) 15:07, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
