Aramean Name in this Aramean Village
[edit]In my opinion, the village Beth Kustab should get on its own Wikipedia page the Aramean name, the People of Beth Kustan are Arameans, they Call themselves Aramean. The Aramean identity of this Village is confirmed a long time ago, so why shouldn’t the people of the village called Arameans?! Drmartinbey (talk) 13:58, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Your edit was reverted as you modified two links [1] [2] and in doing so you broke them. Both sources use the name Assyrian. Assyrians and Arameans are the same ethnic group anyway. Mugsalot (talk) 14:07, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- If I add serious sources which proves my arguments, is that okay? Drmartinbey (talk) 15:16, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- If you have any reliable sources on this village, that would be brilliant, as these villages in Tur Abdin are very tedious to research, and by reliable sources I do of course mean published books or journals. It might be worth using the term "Assyrian/Aramean", granted you can provide the reliable sources. Mugsalot (talk) 15:23, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, you mean, if I add reliable sources, you won’t delete the Aramean name? Drmartinbey (talk) 15:43, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Provide your sources here on the talk page, and then we can discuss it. Mugsalot (talk) 16:10, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Linking to Terms for Syriac Christians
[edit]Hey, @Mugsalot, would it not be wiser to use Terms for Syriac Christians when redirecting the term Syriac? Considering that it includes and writes about all groups identifying as Syriacs. User623921 (talk) 10:17, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- @User623921: Terms for Syriac Christians serves to explain the various identities but the article Assyrian people is for all the people with those identities, is my understanding. Mugsalot (talk) 10:34, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Most Syriacs do not identify as Assyrians, rather only as Syriacs, most Syriac Orthodox people in the diaspora identify as Arameans, not as Assyrians. In Turkey they say Suryani for Syriac, a word exists for Assyrian there, Asuri.
- I feel like Terms for Syriac Christians would fit best as a majority of Syriacs do not align themselves with the Assyrian identity. It is also evident that Syriac translates to Aramean in Western literature as well as in their own Syriac literature, the USA Immigration Commission Dictionary of Races and People also have Syriac listed as "native Aramaic race."[3]https://archive.org/details/dictionaryofrace00unitrich/page/138/mode/2up?q=aramaic User623921 (talk) 18:09, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- @User623921: Assyrian people is the article used for people who identify as Aramean/Syriac/Assyrian. If you want to separate those identities into separate articles then you will have to make the argument for that on that article, not here. Mugsalot (talk) 11:01, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
