Writers

Beyonce is noted last in the list of writers. Does this mean that she had the least to do with writing the song? I have noticed this on other songs too and wasn't sure as to whether it meant anything? Respond on my talk page if you know why, thanks. Muthamonster (talk) 08:14, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I do not know why as well. And let me tell you that when you post messages on talk-page of articles, you better come to the talk-page yourself to see whether someone has replied or not. Jivesh Talk2Me 08:19, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
According to some people, the first one to be credited is the one who had the most writings and contributions to that work. For instance, Lady Gaga's "Telephone" is written by Gaga herself, with little help from LaShawn Daniels, Lazonate Franklin and Rodney Jerkins. We all know that the song was intended for Britney Spears, but her label refused. So Gaga re-claimed ownership to the song, and started persuading Spears to contribute for her The Fame Monster release, but then eventually, Beyoncé was chosen. They had to change a few lines to fit Knowles, and then, because Knowles had the least contribution to that song, she was listed last on the song's writing credits. Music video

Anyone knows what happened to the video premiere promised by Piers Morgan? FinnsDeal (talk) 14:08, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

The show has not aired yet. Jivesh Talk2Me 14:28, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
They were suppose to show it on the day they interviewed Beyonce but it never happened. Ozurbanmusic (talk) 00:30, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Bad decision. It could have helped the sales of 4 and the single itself. FinnsDeal (talk) 03:53, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Well, i am a bit sad but it seems BTINH is catching up thanks to airplay. Jivesh Talk2Me 05:24, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

?

Do you really need this part in the article: She’s super cordial. She’s still a Southern girl. And my favorite thing though, easily, was how much she turned into a fan when Babyface came into the room. She became a fan. She was the one sitting down excited to hear the stories and what Kenny was talking about. It’s always cool when you get to see people that you look at in that spotlight and you see them actually become the fan. That was great.? 77.29.83.177 (talk) 19:54, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Alternate video

Beyoncé FACEBOOK: "A few months ago, you sent in photos and videos from your weddings and proms to be in an alternate video for "Best Thing I Never Had." Now see all of your submissions come to life in the premiere of the "Best Thing I Never Had" alternate fan video exclusively on CELEBUZZ!" - October 12

In the original video, Beyonce celebrates her big (wedding) day by taking a journey through a number of photos of home videos, and was inspired to have her fans join in on the fun

Oh my goodness. Thanks for this. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:52, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

welcome! but i think you should describe the video, not just say the date of the premier. "journey through a number of photos of home videos, and was inspired to have her fans join in" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.168.195.60 (talk) 14:39, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Actually, Wikipedia does not consider that source as reliable. It cannot be used for description but it can be there to source the date since as far as now, it is the ONLY source available. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 17:10, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Covers

The Horrors Cover Beyoncé We’re not sure where it stands in the hierarchy of great indie rock covers of Beyoncé songs, but you know, it’s pretty good! The Horrors deconstruct Beyoncé’s magnificent “Best Thing I Never Had” into a brooding, soaring guitar freakout during a recent live session with BBC Radio 1.

Suggestion

Can I suggest that the Alternate video sub-section be moved the the Background and development sub-section, at the end. It looks weak as a sub-section. Calvin TalkThatTalk 18:44, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

And that the Live performances section be re-named Live performances and covers and merge the two together, as the Covers section is also quite small. Calvin TalkThatTalk 18:47, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I see your point with the Covers section, but I really don't see the point of having a 2 sentence sub-section for the Alternate video. That would work perfecrly fine at the end of the Background and development sub-section. Calvin TalkThatTalk 18:54, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Babyface on working with Knowles

Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:58, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Worth mentioning

Is it worth mentioning that when the song debuted at number 3, Knowles' six other songs ("Run The World (Girls)" - #23, "Irreplaceable" - #33, "Halo" - #60, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" - 72 and "End of Time" - #62) re-entered the chart? Beyonce's website

I thin this article needs the info about when the song was chosen on Beyonce's website along with her quote. (Beginning on June 16 to June 27, 2011, the songs from 4 were available to listen to in full each day on Knowles' official website, paired with its accompanying photo spread from the album packaging and an insightful quote...) Comments from Aircorn

In response to a request on my talk page I have read through this article with an eye on FA status. I am more comfortable at GA level, but have made some changes and thought I would leave some comments here. I found this article very thorough, and is in part this thoroughness that causes some of the problems. For example the reception section contains a lot of psuedo quotes along the lines of "rolling stone said this", "EMi worte that" and "according to such and such". That is usually fine for GA, but FA demands a higher standard. An easy way to fix this would be to reduce the number of reviews listed. We can exhibit editorial judgement on what to include or exclude and there is little value of quoting reviews that say similar things. Someone more familiar with the genre would be better able to help, but only reviewers with the best reputation should be quoted, unless prehaps if one differs from the standard tagline. Another solution could be to summarise reviews better. If a group are saying something similar and it is not deemed overly controversial, just say summarise it as "reviewers, including ......., compared the article to ........ and praised ......." No quoting necessary. AIRcorn (talk) 01:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

A few other comments

  • "the female protagonist" - sounds a bit dramatic - why not use Knowles?
  • "Sucks to be you right now" - Should that be capitilised? It stands out in the lead.
  • "Smith, Babyface, and Dixon also wrote six additional records and recorded another five." This doesn't appear to relevant to the article
  • Artwork and release - This section loses focus and is more about the album than the song
  • What does kissoff-themed song mean and I would mention that those other songs are hers?
  • Overciting could be an issue (some sentences have three and four inline references). Probably a minor issue
  • "Kyle Anderson of Entertainment Weekly wrote that elements" - what elements, needs more explanation
  • "James Dinh of MTV News wrote that the song sounds like one from a Broadway musical, attributing the comparison to Knowles' collaboration with the band from Fela! to gain inspiration from the play's subject, Nigerian musician and composer, Fela Kuti." I am not sure what this sent4ence is asaying and don't know how to fix it.
  • "Knowles no longer desires her lover after discovering his deceit" - what deceit? Are all the lines necessary, why not just choose the best few
