[edit]

Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, KCVO (12 June 1863 - 10 October 1931), later known as Bertram Mackennal was an Australian sculptor.

Commment: I appreciate that his legal name was Edgar Bertram Mackennal, but my understanding is that, at least throughout his adult life, he was only ever known as Bertram Mackennal, hence his initials BM. Does that not mean the title of the article should be "Bertram Mackennal"? -- JackofOz (talk) 06:55, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. He's referred to as "Bertram Mackennal" by the National Gallery of Australia and books written about him also tend to use "Bertram Mackennal" Also that opening sentence is incorrect chronologically.--Melburnian (talk) 07:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. All fixed now. -- JackofOz (talk) 08:04, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism?

[edit]

The vast majority of this article is either a direct copy or a very slight paraphrase of Mackennal's entry in the Dictionary of Australian Biography. http://gutenberg.net.au/dictbiog/0-dict-biogMc.html#mackennal1 How should this be handled? Ian Page (talk) 13:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Though it's not something that I agree with, WP:PLAG permits incorporation of public domain material into articles (with attribution). A number of articles such as this were started as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/To-do/Australian Dictionary of Biography some years ago.--Melburnian (talk) 11:50, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
