Where the information comes from
[edit]My mother, Eleanor Adams Price, was Bernetta's first cousin once removed (her mother was Bernetta's cousin). We were the closest relatives to Bernetta's home in New Hope, Pennsylvania during the last years of her life. Eleanor was Bernetta's executor in 1972, and when Eleanor died in 2000 I inherited Bernetta's papers. They are mostly photographs and a few letters and some clippings of articles interviewing her, plus a typescript of a description of her early flights which she filed with the Smithsonian Institution. I hope to post a couple of images and some web links and references soon. By the way, I knew Bernetta in the 1950's and 1960's. She was a very nice person and one of my favorite relatives, even though I didn't see her often. She was very kindly to young folks, and remained mentally sharp to the end. Had a great collection of rugs from Turkey, too. Felsenst 07:08, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Bernetta's statement about her opinion of Robert Oppenheimer was in a personal conversation with Eleanor Price, as recalled by her in conversation with me. The signed copy of the letter of recommendation by Albert Einstein (and accompanying cover letter from him) is in my possession, and copies have been sent to the Albert Einstein Papers project at UCLA. Birth date ambiguity
[edit]Bernetta's year of birth is often given as 1886. On one copy of a photo of her pilot's license her birth date is given as 1886. But on another copy she cuts the year out. She attended Geneseo Normal School starting in 1900, according to their records, at a time when (they say) 18 was the normal age of admission, with some students a bit younger. That plus the fact that her Social Security death record says 1884 causes me to reject 1886. Also, in an interview she gave late in life, when she would have less reason to conceal her age, they say 1884. Felsenst 10:46, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Source of commendation text
[edit]The texts of commendations for her World War I service (including the Croix de Guerre) are taken from copies kept by Bernetta, which I have inherited and are in my possession. The text of the commendation in French is

Why not a female aviator?
[edit]Why was Bernetta removed from Category: Female aviators? She was female and an aviator. Felsenst (talk) 03:52, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
