This is probably all OR, but it is my personal knowledge, as I knew Bernard extremely well from Jan 1952 on till his death. I was on the Russian course with him. In fact, he did not learn Russian at school, but started from scratch at Cambridge. The course of 18 months was devoted to learning the language, not to listening to Soviet interceptions. He was good at it, but I was better! The final 3 months of NS at Maresfield were filled in somehow with snippets of intelligence. Esedowns (talk) 23:03, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
