Poem
[edit]As fascinating as that poem may be, it clearly exceeds fair use to reproduce an entire work that is still under copyright without permission. Agricolae (talk) 00:31, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Bernard's birth order
[edit]The article tells that Bernard is the eldest son of John and Amy Drake.. and that and the biographical information in consistent with other historical information I have seen. The problem is that in the article, his birth is given as about 1537, while it also says he has a brother, Richard, born 1535. That would make Richard older than Bernard.
Wikitree tells that John and Amy have three sons, in the order of the birth years given: Robert b. abt. 1528, Richard b.1535 and Bernard b. abt. 1537. Making Bernard the youngest. I have doubts about this birth order, but I don't have any reliable information, myself. 93.106.34.226 (talk) 09:05, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- There is nothing about this in the cited source, but the Dict Can Bio source listed at the end of the article says "he succeeded his father in 1558 as head of the Drake family of Ashe" would represent a WP:RS for this, even though that author's source is the rather less reliable Vivian. The actual root source, the Visitation of 1564, gives Bernard's name first of the brothers but does not specify the order, and this may simply reflect giving priority to him because he provided the information. The birthdates are all of little value, just guesses. Vivian gives Robert a precise age at death but doesn't indicate where this information is coming from so it may not have any validity, and provides no birth for the others. The dates found on Wikitree are just someone's guesses, probably based on the order the sons are listed by VIvian, who in turn probably did so for the purposes of graphical layout and not to reflect birth order. Dict Can Bio also gives him a c. 1537 birth, but the source for this is uncertain. Agricolae (talk) 11:57, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Relationship to Sir Francis
[edit]i have added this quote from the 5th citation from the Drake Baronets page...
...In fact Bernard Drake grandparents John Drake V 1474-1554 and his wife Margaret were also the grandparents of Sir Francis Drake _Bernard being descended from an older son and Francis descended from a younger son. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:B85C:3B01:8E46:EA7D:DCC6:47EB (talk) 10:12, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
