Some notes

[edit]

Benjamin, nick name "Benni", has a sister Carina Raich but also a brother, named Florian. His first victory in the World Cup on January 7th, 1999, in Schladming (a "night race") was exceptional in that he was only 23rd after the first leg.

The bronze medal in the slalom of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games he was awarded afterwards because Alain Baxter was eliminated. Benni had qualms to take the medal because he said that he didn't win it in the run. Only when Mr. Baxter encouraged Benni to take the medal he did it; he obtained the medal on occasion of a ceremony in December 2002. In the English Wikipedia talks about Mr. Baxter it is suspected that Raich did return the medal to Baxter in later years.
In the Team Event in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships 2011 on February 16th he fell down and was badly injured - but he was also awarded with the silver medal like his teammates (but in contrast to them he couldn't take part in the medal ceremony because he was hospitalized).
Benni was not a "show man"; of course, he was "jubilant" by winning and not pleased if he couldn't achieve a good result. He was levelheaded able to realize and analyze very soon. Newspapers wrote: "Maybe, often it seems that he is a nice guy but he works very hard to achieve records."
Now he is one of the commentary team of Austrian TV-station ORF. 213.225.11.90 (talk) 17:42, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
