McCulloch and Price
[edit]As far as I can tell McCulloch held the senior rank until sometime in March 1862. McCulloch seems to have been second (and Price obviously was not first) in seniority among Brigadier Generals of the Confederate Provisional Army. Price only became a Major General in March 1862 it seems, probably after the battle of Pea Ridge where McCulloch died. This rank question seems to have been one of the problems between McCulloch and Price, also one of the reasons why Van Dorn (a Major General of the Confederate Provisional Army by that date) was sent to take command of Forces in Northern Arkansas and South Western Missouri.--Caranorn 21:10, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the part of the artical in question. Sterling Price was not a member of the Confederate Army until he was given a Major General's commission after Pea Ridge. While his commission was to be dated to March 6th, that is for seniority purposes only, and he was not actually promoted on that day. Before that time he was a "general" of Missouri militia only, so he had no direct ties to the Confederate Army that McCulloch was a member of. When Price fled Missouri with his army and combined with McCulloch, and later Van Dorn, he did so as a member of a completely separate military organization, with no rank comparable to (and no authority over) McCulloch.--jdmccuistion 15:36, 24 April 2009.
A "2.7k" cannon?
[edit]I understand that nearly everything on WP needs to be metricized -- but calling a certain type of field piece a "six-pounder (2.7k) cannon" is not only silly but inaccurate. "Six-pounder" was the proper designation of the piece by the weight of the ball it fired. Metrics have nothing to do with it. I've removed the "2.7k" thing. --Michael K. Photo is wrong McCulloch
[edit]The lower photo has caption of "Engraving of McCulloch as a Confederate general officer". This is actaully a photo of Robert A. McCulloch who was a captain serving in 2nd Missouri Cavalry under his cousin, Colonel Robert McCulloch. Later, he was promoted to Lt-Colonel in command of the 2nd Missouri when Col. Robert "Black Bob" McCulloch was promoted to be a brigade commander under General James R. Chalmers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.82.243.102 (talk) 14:25, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
I posted the above but didn't have my password to sign on. The photo needs to be deleted from this article as it is NOT Benjamin McCulloch. Check FindaGrave for photos of both Lieut-Col Robert A. McCulloch and his cousin Colonel Robert McCulloch. Steve Cole — Preceding unsigned comment added by GearDown (talk • contribs) 04:04, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
