S-of-A

Does Sergeant-of-Arms for the Senate really count as a distinguished alum? He's not even the one that introduces the President for the State of the Union address, is he? Seems pretty lame to me... 24.163.153.160 05:24, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

University or College?

So we're calling it a "university" now? I thought we settled this about 10 years ago. If it's a university, then where are the schools of law, medicine, engineering, etc.? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.79.15.2 (talk) 04:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Darryl Jones

Hi Gab4gab I do not understand why you would consider Darryl Jones non-notable. The College dedicates a whole webpage to him, which to me seems notable enough. I would like to hear your input. Thanks! Jtrrs0 (talk) 16:27, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

I just saw the message you left me and I do not think that he needs an article first. Jtrrs0 (talk) 16:29, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

@Jtrrs0: The usual criteria for inclusion in notable alumni list is an existing Wikipedia biography article and either sourced content there or a reference that confirms attendance. The exception is people notable for a single event. Coverage in the college website is not independent which gives it less weight than usual in supporting notability. While I understand you don't feel an article is needed before adding him I think you'll find that most other editors don't agree. If you feel he is notable why not create an article? If the article survives then no one will question adding his name to the list in this article. Some of what I'm saying is repeated in WP:WRITEITFIRST. Gab4gab (talk) 16:41, 3 September 2018 (UTC):
@Gab4gab: Okay, I see. I will look into maybe creating the article. Is there any policy or guidance you could direct me to with regards to alumni lists? Thanks. Jtrrs0 (talk) 16:45, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jtrrs0: Here are a few links that are of some help: WP:LISTPEOPLE, WP:LISTBIO, WP:ALMAMATER, WP:UNIGUIDE. I think if someone is doing the work needed to establish notability it's much better to create the article. Then it can be linked for whatever lists are appropriate. If Jones had played in the NBA then he would likely satisfy WP:NBASKETBALL although I can't find that he did. Gab4gab (talk) 17:26, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
