Cleanup
[edit]This article is filled with excessive detail and dead links. I can't tell if it's promotional or fancruft. Either way, the whole thing needs to be scrubbed. I started on it but only got half-way through the "Business History" section. Another problem is that many sources are either wiki-mirrors or are related to his public speaking -- in other words, he probably writes his own bios for the speaking engagements. So I wouldn't exactly call them great sources! ask123 (talk) 14:37, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Also, I read the archives, and I don't think this article warrants as much attention as some other users and Ben Way seem to want. Ben Way is a person of minor notability. We don't need excessive details like whether or not he has dyslexia, and we certainly don't need to contact his PA to confirm pieces of minor information (as Way has suggested). It is perfectly acceptable to use the internet to find all of the reliable sourcing for this article. If a reliable source can't be found there, then you have to ask yourself if the information is worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. This article could be half its size and still be "acceptably encyclopedic" given the subject matter. ask123 (talk) 14:42, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Page needs updating
[edit]Ask123 the page needs updating but lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater, a lot of the info you took out was relevant such as his first company and deserves to be in the article, this page has been edited by many editors over years please at least respect that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Julia-The-Little-Lady (talk • contribs) 17:28, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay I have updated the links, let me know if there are more fundamental issues you want to look at so at least the community can discuss them. Julia-The-Little-Lady (talk) 18:31, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, his first company was not, in and of itself, notable. Although not common, there are many 15-year-olds who start businesses (even modestly successful ones like Ben's). That alone is not a notable event. The starting of that business has only been mentioned in sources because he himself referenced it in inverviews following the hype surrounding his second company, Pulsar. The important point is that the hype surrounding Pulsar was the impetus for the news articles that mention his first consultancy business. But the consultancy itself was not, to my knowledge, a notable business that garnered him renown or anything that the Wiki community would call reliable secondary sources. If you look at Wiki articles for other business peole, you will find that they don't typically mention every business venture (including the rather small ones) that the individual participated in -- unless, of course, the person is really, really famous, in which case, you get much more detail that you would say here. Ben Way is not really famous; so I am in favor of limiting the amount of detail so that the article's length and granularity is porportionate to his level of prominence. ask123 (talk) 15:09, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- Regarding my quick deletions. I was just being bold and trying to clean up a small article quickly. Other users can always revert the changes, and, after a certain number of reverts, there is procedure for dealing with the issue. But I did not mean to exclude the community! :) ask123 (talk) 15:09, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
