Benjamin?

[edit]

@Orangemike: Looks like you made this "not Benjamin" comment in this article back in 2013. Do you recall why you came to that conclusion? I'm looking to expand this article, and one of the first sources I came to was "History and Genealogy of the Eastman Family of America", which does list him as "Benjamin". It looks like his paternal grandfather was also named Benjamin. -- Asdasdasdff (talk) 03:22, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All the seriously reliable sources I can find list him as "Ben." Genealogical compilations such as the one you mention are notoriously not compiled to scholarly standards.

Got it. I'm sure these probably also don't meet those standards, but one or both of the History of Grant County books also refer to him as "Benjamin" in some areas. But it looks like there's a birth or christening record that also lists him as Benjamin [1]. -- Asdasdasdff (talk) 06:12, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
