Title change[edit]

Nobody knows what and where is the Bay Islands Department. A better title would be "Bay Islands" or "Bay Islands (Honduras)". Maybe also a separate article for the Bay Islands British period, no? Lubiesque (talk) 17:09, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article went through several moves (name changes) long ago (see the page history [View history] above). The rationale for the move to the current name in 2007 was "consistency with articles on similar subdivisions", i.e., the departments of Honduras, all of which have titles ending with "Department". While a separate article for the British period would be possible, the current article is nowhere near large enough to justify splitting it. What might be worth doing is adding something to British Honduras, which does not mention the Bay Islands or the Mosquito Coast, which were administered as part of the colony for many years. Removal of copyvio[edit]

I removed several paragraphs from the History section of the article because they were identical to this archived page from February 2013. All of that content had been added to the article by Beta500 (talk · contribs) between March 13, 2013 and June 2, 2013. All of the copyright violating material was attributed to 'David K. Evans (1999). "A Brief History of The Bay Islands". aboututila. Retrieved March 5, 2013.' at the time, as was the content on the real estate web page. There is other content in the article which was also attributed to David Evans when added in 2013, but the "aboututila" website no longer hosts that material, and it does not look like it was ever archived by Internet Archive. I strongly suspect that everything that was added to the article by Beta500 in 2013 was a copyvio, but I cannot be sure without access to David Evans' work.
