Fourth Engagement

[edit]

This section erroneously said that Admiral Harrington's Eighth Fleet fired an Apollo salvo at Third Fleet. Third Fleet was a Manticoran force commanded by Admiral Truman (formerly commanded by Admiral Kuzak); the missile salvo was fired at Admiral Chin's Fifth Fleet.--Raguleader 08:11, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Havens Manning levels

[edit]

Are Haven ships using less automation than the alliances ships so instead of having the small crews that alliance SD(P) have they still continue to have aroun 6000 people manning thier SD(P). Also what is the crew size of a Haven LAC if a Alliance Shrike is 10.Corustar 01:20, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Manticoran Victory?

[edit]

Shouldn't that rather be "Tactical Manticoran victory, strategic Havenite victory"? IIRC it's mentioned in the book that the Manticoran alliance lost a larger part of its fleet than the RoH. Also the main objective was to prevent Manticore from exploiting its new and vastly superior FTL-controlled missile systems and to stop Manticoran raids. With 8th Fleet now forced to play Homefleet they clearly succeeded.

The stated goal of Operation Beatrice, IIRC, was to force a Manticoran surrender by siezing control of their home system with an overwhelming strike force. Given this, at best it was a partial strategic victory for the Havenites, especially since they have lost half of their battle fleet and their most experienced commanders. Manticore similarly has also suffered massive losses in both ships (Home Fleet and 3rd Fleet both destroyed) and leadership, but retained the bulk of their most advanced warships. We may have to wait until the next Honor Harrington book to find the overall aftermath of the battle.--Raguleader 20:42, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another question: Why did Tourville agree not to clear the databases? Would have Honor attacked him if he'd struck the wedges of his fleet? And even if she did (or he believed she would) couldn't he have sent a massive unguided salvo against Gryphon (or was it Sphinx?)? Imho he shouldn't have caved in that easily. 82.135.7.211 02:07, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tourville couldn't have sent an unguided missile salvo against Sphinx (Gryphon was on the other side of the system at the time) for two important reasons: 1) It would go against his personal and professional code of honor that we have seen so far, and 2) It would force the Solarian League to declare war on the Republic of Haven, due to the Eridani Edict. His options at the time were very limited.--Raguleader 20:42, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Third Fleet's Strength

[edit]

The infobox lists Admiral McKeon's SD(P)s seperate from thre rest of the SD(P)s under Admiral Kuzak's command. If it's worth mentioning them apart from the other 50+ SD(P)s of Third Fleet, would it be possible to denote them as a detatchment from Admiral Harrington's Eighth Fleet?--Raguleader 20:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
