Credit for Victory Controversy

Mayhaps we should incorporate the controversy regarding the spoils of this battle. Johnson received title and considerable bounty for this victory, although some contend that regard should dwell with Gen. Lyman, who took over the command, after Johnson was wounded. Milton W. Hamilton (once a New York State Historian and authority on Johnson) in his 1963 paper “Hero of Lake George: Johnson or Lyman?” (The New England Quarterly, Vol. 36, No. 3 (Sep., 1963), pp. 371-382.) makes case for Johnson by arguing bias in accounts by Francis Parkman and Timothy Dwight (who was nephew-in-law of Lyman’s) and their partisan sources. theUg (talk) 12:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
