Maratha

[edit]

The Marathas were clearly not an Empire, they deny being a Confederacy...therefore they should just be called Marathas — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.182.56.188 (talk) 08:48, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This article which had been started by me as a part of a long term project has been greatly modified in 2008. I do not endorse the article in its current form. --Sukratu Barve (talk) 28 August 2011

Ensured that the article is within project scope, tagged for task forces, and assessed for class. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:40, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure but on another site it shows that that the battle was a British victory.

The battle was a British victory. Why is wikipedia labeling it as Maratha one? Here is a link from National Army Museum. http://www.nam.ac.uk/online-collection/detail.php?acc=1971-02-33-219-1 'Battle of Kirkee fought on the 5th Novr 1816 on which memorable occasion 4785 [sic] British troops defeated the Mahratta Army under the command of Lieut Col Charles Barton Burr'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.194.232.32 (talk) 15:47, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Poor quality Article

[edit]

The article is of extremely low quality and it seems it has been written by a mythistorian. The battle was a British victory but some fanatic had put it to as a Maratha one.I changed it correctly to a British victory and I have also given the appropriate link( http://www.nam.ac.uk/online-collection/detail.php?acc=1971-02-33-219-1 )for it.I hope Wikipedia looks into this matter and rewrites the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.194.231.236 (talk) 06:58, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting the Article

[edit]

I decided to rewrite the article as it had been shoddily written and wrongly mentioned a Maratha victory instead of a British one.I have written from the account given in the official Pune District Gazetteer site which has a reliable and historically correct description of the battle. Also there are a few citations from the British Army Museum website.I had changed a few details in the article relating to the number of casualties and outcome of the battle which had been previously incorrect.I have given the links and references to the changes.I hope a military history expert would look into this article and suggest suitable changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hans Tork (talkcontribs) 08:45, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Version before 2008

[edit]

Please check out the version written by me before 2008 using British and Indian records, as well as field surveys I carried out in the area.
