Urschleim

[edit]

The article originally called Haeckel's hypothetical primordial life "monera," but I have only heard of it as Urschleim. An (admittedly cursory) investigation on Google shows this former usage primarily repeated on creationist sites, perhaps through confusion of kingdom monera with its purported ancestor? Anyway, even if it turns out Haeckel did consider Bathybius a member of monera, I think Urschleim is more specific. Lusanaherandraton 07:34, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Haeckeli or haeckelii?

[edit]

I can see both spellings referenced in apparently reasonably authoritative contexts. Britannica 1911 has haeckelii. It sort-of depends whether Huxley was latinizing Haeckel as Haeckelus or Haeckelius. Does anyone actually have access to the original? David Brooks 03:59, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

haeckelii, see original description here. Note that this was written at a time when dedicational species names were stil Capitalized. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 01:18, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protobathybius robesonii

[edit]

Also ought to discuss Protobathybius robesonii Bessels, 1873. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 01:18, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
