Entrée?

[edit]

This is a bad word to use, since it's ambiguous: the word refers to a starter in the UK but to a main course in the US. I'm guessing the former use is meant here, but it's not clear and a different word would be better. Loganberry (Talk) 01:51, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Entrée is still there, and still ambiguous. I don't want to change it myself because I'm uncertain which is being meant. Loganberry (Talk) 01:15, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

finger food

[edit]

You might like to add that chicken in the basket was mainly eaten with the fingers, not with cutlery. I never enjoyed it, as I didn't like getting my fingers that messy! Vince Calegon 08:38, 30 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vince Calegon (talkcontribs)

Out of fashion

[edit]

I understand that in the UK chicken in a basket was 'invented' by one of the major pub chains in the 1950s, but I have no references.

However it has fallen out of fashion. I have not seen it for years in the UK, but have no references.

On the other hand, I have seen Hahn im Korb in Germany, literally translated as Chicken in a basket. I will add this.
