Barua (Bengali: বড়ুয়া Boṛua, Arakanese: မရမာကြီး) is a distinct Bengali-speaking Indo-Aryan ethno-religious minority group native to Chittagong Division in Bangladesh, Rakhine State in Myanmar, where they are known as the Maramagyi or Maramagri, and parts of Tripura in northeast India.

Tradition

The Barua are the only remaining community of Indian Buddhists with historical connections to Nalanda, Vikramshila and Bodh Gaya in Eastern India where Buddhism survived even after the decline of the Mahaviharas. Language

Barua people of Bangladesh speak Chittagonian but relate to Bengali culture. It is a L1 language of most Barua people. It is not being accorded a separate language status because of socio-political reasons. I added the edit. Barua general

Apart from the fact that many of the Baruas claim to be Bengalis, the physical structure of all the Baruas is not the same. Some I'll minded Barua believe to be Marmagree. Marmagree means elder brother of Marma. But in Barua community many Barua even don't associate with the term.. They say Marmagree means Hybrid Marma.. I suggest we need to listen both sides story. And why they even included Barua community looks.. flat Norse, monolid eyes.
