Uncomfortable truth
[edit]The current article is frankly misleading, because Barton's outstanding characteristic can hardly be read between the lines. Is there some wikipaedia policy about expressing or omitting uncomfortable truths, please?
The Oxford city council (which owns almost the whole suburb) website uses this formula: "According to the Indices of Multiple Deprivation data, Barton is one of the most deprived areas in Oxford and England as a whole. Barton is a very close knit community and is appreciated locally as a good place to live." Jezza (talk) 19:46, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- Unfortunately articles like this are often produced by local councillors or teachers in local schools, and they have a natural tendency to put a positive spin on their areas. Barton isn't a 'suburb', it's a big postwar council estate out beyond the ring road with all the crime, antisocial behaviour and deprivation that you'd expect in such a place. Nobody in their right mind would choose to live there if they had any other option. --Ef80 (talk) 15:22, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- Fairly typical Barton story from the Oxford Mail: https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/20066957.day-8-barton-murder-jury-hear-lewis-brown-seen-knife-june-2021/ --Ef80 (talk) 10:56, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
- As part of my various improvements to this article, I have included a new crime rate section. So far there is only information from the 2021 census, though please feel free to expand this section with reliable sources! Luna Char (talk) 18:07, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your work, the article is much improved. Ef80 (talk) 13:27, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Rectory Farm History
[edit]Upon a recent visit to Rectory Farm, one of the owners mentioned how the farm owns large amounts of land around Barton, however I could not find a suitable reference for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated : ) Luna Char (talk) 12:41, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
