Detail fixes
[edit]I am the Stephen D. Williams that wrote all of the server code for BuddyList at AOL, so I don't think I should change the article directly.
I was hired to develop BuddyList from scratch, based on Barry Appelman's ideas for it. I added a few details as I began to use it. The main error I see is confusing BuddyList with AIM. BuddyList is the buddy list feature for the America Online Service. AIM was a redevelopment by another team about 2.5 years later for people not using the AOL service application.
Another interesting point is that BuddyList was used to show users popup alerts when they logged in. The first was a notice required by the federal government. Later, this became a popup ad system.
I also created, and skunk worked, Instant Images at AOL, a multi-person video chat system that was tested with 10 video streams in 1997, over dialup. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdw (talk • contribs) 00:39, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
