Map request
[edit]@Roundtheworld - you reverted an edit I made regarding the map request template. This moved the map request from Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Portugal back to Category:Wikipedia requested maps. The description for Category:Wikipedia requested maps indicates that pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where applicable and should directly contain very few, if any, pages. I thought that Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Portugal was the most applicable subcategory for this particular map request since it seemed that the description of the elements of the Barron Plan were located in Portugal. There are also more general subcategories for map requests including Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Europe and global map requests.
If the coordinates of the eight battery locations are known and they are all located in Portugal, one simple way to add a map to this article could be to use Template:Location map many to create a map that shows all of the battery locations within the country. I recently used this template to create a location map for another article and it was rather easy to use. -Transpoman (talk) 12:25, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Transpoman Many thanks for your message. The problem for me was that the map request template with Portugal included leads to a message on the Talk page saying "Wikipedians in Portugal may wish to help". I found this a rather unhelpful message as I'd welcome assistance from anyone with the necessary skills. Ideally the template should provide the link to Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Portugal without at the same time creating this message mentioning Portugal at the top of the page. Thanks for your advice on Template:Location map many. Could you share the name of the article you used it for so I can see what the template looks like when completed? Thanks again. - @Roundtheworld - No worries. I had just finished cleaning up the main category for requested maps by moving pages into subcategories whereas the only pages left were the ones that stem from requests made through Template:WikiProject Cities, so I left a message about the issue of them not being placed in the proper subcategories in Category talk:Wikipedia requested maps. With regards to Template:Location map many, the article that I added the map to is MTA Bridges and Tunnels. -Transpoman (talk) 17:29, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Transpoman Thanks. Unfortunately I failed miserably at the first hurdle in trying to develop a suitable map of the area, before even thinking about adding the coordinates of the forts. Anyway, I have now added the eight coordinates to the article so perhaps someone will be able to help out with a map. Roundtheworld (talk) 17:00, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
