Side effects
[edit]At present it says that "the effect of the drink on the bowels may be moderately severe". This seems to be an oxymoron; maybe someone can supply a more precise description? Chris Loosley (talk) 22:14, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
I know this comment was from 2010, but...I can attest that this stuff can indeed cause severe stomach pain. Additionally, I experienced extremely severe chest pain from drinking this solution. It was so painful, the radiologist declined to proceed with the test. The reason I was having the test was for investigating the cause of my frequent, severe heartburn. The excruciating pain I felt was in the same exact place that hurts when I have the heartburn.
In any case, this is apparently a rare occurance, but it would have been nice to know that it was a possibility before I went to have the test. I read this article beforehand and there was no mention of severe pain as a possible effect. Might be a good idea to add it to the article as being a possible (though rare) side effect so others might be forewarned. WarFighter (talk) 01:05, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
References
[edit]This article currently has no references. I am having (yet another) CT scan this Thursday, August 2nd, and I will most likely pick up my barium on Tuesday or Wednesday. In any case, I'll keep the info-sheet that comes with it handy and add it as a reference for most of the information I added. Some of the information, such as taste and texture, is anecdotal, however... but if you've ever had this stuff, you know that's the most noteworthy part of it for the patient! --Intx13 03:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Good start on the article! I propose to attempt my first Wiki edit by increasing the accuracy of the facts regarding the fast prior to Barium Sulfate. The Nil per os Wikipedia article looks useful, as well as a few external website links to substantial medical sites...as long as they may be quoted as per the rules...Tagbenia (talk) 12:54, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
