From the current version:
"Barbituric acid was first synthesized December 6, 1864, by German researcher Adolf von Baeyer. This was done by condensing urea (an animal waste product) with diethyl malonate (an ester derived from the acid of apples)."
The condensation of urea and malonic acid was done by Grimaux in 1879 (Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. 1879, 31, 146 - only available in prints), not by von Baeyer who followed a more complicated route starting from uric acid (Ann. der Chem. und Pharm. 1864, 131, 291 - available on the Eur. J. Org. Chem. website).
