Would be nice to be able to see their headquarters, or even something as mundane as their uniform! TheGrappler 18:07, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Flag vs Emblem

[edit]

Not sure how someone can determine a flag is "more inclusive" - Prevailing wisdom seems to be "logos, COA, emblems...etc [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] the Home - The Barbados Defence Force website doesn't even display the "flag" - FOX 52 talk! 04:34, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The flag includes the logo in its center, hence when adding the flag rather than the logo, you get both flag and logo in the same image. This increases the amount of information given to the reader.
Apart from WP:OTHERSTUFF, and the fact that I am able to find just as many pages with flags, do any of these nations have flags that represent their armed forces? Because if not, then I'm not surprised that they don't display any flag. The BDF flag can be found on their website. This isn't the first time that you have removed flags, so I am wondering what you got against them? Skjoldbro (talk) 04:58, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't a case of liking or disliking flags - its following the standard JASDF, NYPD, Barbados, Danish defense. Whether you put the "symbol" on a flag, a coffee mug, or the side of an aircraft, it doesn't help the reader, grasp the information any better - We need to show the reader the primary Image without the unnecessary eye candy - FOX 52 talk! 16:44, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to make sure that I'm understanding your argument. A military standard which has been used as the primary means of identification for a 1000 years, isn't good enough for identification of a military? Skjoldbro (talk) 19:35, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes- because were not talking about a "rallying point for troops (or) to mark the location of the commander" - were talking about an identifying image to an organization. As for a primary means of identification, well it doesn't seem to be the case in Barbados - FOX 52 talk! 20:40, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox national military support 2 images (|image= and |image2=) and the documentation said image relevant to the county's armed forces., Why can we just use both image? It's not like that it's never used on other national military article before. For reference see: People's Liberation Army, People's Army of Vietnam, Tatmadaw, Royal Thai Armed Forces, Singapore Armed Forces, Malaysian Armed Forces, Russian Armed Forces, Armed Forces of Ukraine, Pakistan Armed Forces, Indian Armed Forces, Armed Forces of Malta, Canadian Armed Forces, British Armed Forces. Ckfasdf (talk) 02:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also we have RFC discussion on similar issue a year ago, which conclude both parameter can be filled in. Ckfasdf (talk) 03:04, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Have to agree with Skjoldbro and Ckfasdf here. - wolf 03:35, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, we can't as they are both non-free media, & there's no real rational for both. - In fairness the Belize Defence Force uses their flag as their primary logo, so when it was swapped out from the seal to the flag, I followed the same standard. - (FYI I will open this discuss) - FOX 52 talk! 05:43, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are missing the point.. The conclusion of that discussion is both parameter can be filled in if there is no license issue on the image itself. And, I don't think that's the case for Barbados defense force flag/emblem images. Ckfasdf (talk) 05:52, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ckfasdf: are you serious? BDF emblem BDF flag ultimately we can only use one. As for their flag there is not real clear view, which doesn't allow for an accurate description. - FOX 52 talk! 06:24, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Previous RfC clearly state that we can use both parameter when they are available. On BDF flag itself, it is simply green background with BDF emblem in the center as shown in BDF official page or here. Ckfasdf (talk) 08:14, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I know what it says, but you're not getting it, that is NOT a rational to use duplicate emblems (twice). - FOX 52 talk! 08:48, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please remove either the flag or the emblem. We do not need both and there is no rationale in policy for having both. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:08, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As the flag includes the emblem, it would be the optimal solution. The flags addition does nothing to subtract from the content of the page, and only adds additional relevant information to the reader. Skjoldbro (talk) 15:42, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
