Talk:Bankruptcy protection

I redirected this page to Bankruptcy, but another editor reverted. My view is that this is useless as a disambiguation page; there are not two or more distinct things called "bankruptcy protection". This page is simply pointing users to the pages about relevant legal provisions in two (out of 200+) countries in the world. The existing article Bankruptcy already includes links to both of those pages as well as much other relevant information. Please comment on whether the page should be left alone, the redirect should be restored, or some other resolution preferred. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 14:48, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree that the page should be redirected to Bankruptcy. Although a distinction was being made between liquidation of assets and being a debtor in possession back when this was an article, both appear to be forms of bankruptcy, making that article the natural target. And I agree that there is more information on the processes in various regions on the main Bankruptcy page. Dekimasuよ! 14:59, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Redirection makes sense. I was a bit surprised by Russ's edit summary - "Bankruptcy protection" and "Bankruptcy" are the same thing - and so I wonder if that was at least part of The Tom's motivation. Anyway, redirection makes the most sense. --AndrewHowse (talk) 16:14, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- To be honest, after looking at the former article here, the dab, and the redirect target, I'm pretty confused about whether bankruptcy protection and bankruptcy ARE the same thing, and if not, what the distinction is; it would be nice if that question was answered more clearly for the user who does navigate to bankruptcy protection, whether it's a redirect or not. But the dab doesn't seem to make any sense, so if maintaining a separate article isn't appropriate, my vote's for the redirect. Propaniac (talk) 13:45, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Bankruptcy protection is a subset of bankruptcy. Hence, while related they are not exactly the same thing. For example disbursement orders in bankruptcy are not part of bankruptcy protection. However, I do think that bankruptcy protection is best covered in the bankruptcy article, as it is an essential part of bankruptcy. Also, this page is misleading as German (and other European) law has bankruptcy protection as well. See, for example, Karmann #Bankruptcy. I don't know about Asia, Africa and South America, but I bet there is something equivalent. --Bejnar (talk) 22:39, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- My understanding is that disambig pages are for helping readers distinguish between similarly named articles, where a word or phrase is likely to be used for a number of different article. in this case, this disambig page doesnt actually list WP pages that contain the phrase "Bankruptcy protection". I think that Bankruptcy protection should simply redirect to Bankruptcy. someone looking up the title of this article may mean protections in the us, uk, other countries, or even want to know generally about bankruptcy. I think nearly every reason for the query could be effectively answered by this redirect, and the reader could go from there. the phrase here doesnt have to be synomymous with Bankruptcy to be redirected to it. Of course, if someone wants to write an entirely separate article about bankruptcy protection, as separate from bankruptcy, that might fly, but it would probably be difficult to distinguish.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 23:35, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
