NKVD
[edit]According to my late mother, (b 1928), who grew up in Luteranska St,the building which now houses the Presidential administration was the NKVD headquarters before WWII. Her grandfather, a victim of the Yezhovshchina, was executed by shooting in the cellars of the building in January 1938. He was exonerated with an apology following the fall of the Soviet Union.
She also told me that when the Germans occupied Kyiv, the Gestapo occupied the building which had been deserted, records intact, by the NKVD, and thus the Germans had access to information about every resident of Kyiv.
What I don't know is whether the NKVD occupied the whole building, or only part of it: can anyone shed any light on this? Sasha (talk) 14:08, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
