Bank failure is currently a nonsense redirect to Bank run because not all banks fail due to bank runs. We need an article that explains what causes bank failures like fraud, bank runs, and massive amounts of bad loans; what bank failures' effects are; and how they are handled in different countries. For example, the United States uses the FDIC to dispose of insolvent banks and insure a limited amount of funds per depositors, while New Zealand has no deposit insurance. How is a failing bank handled there? I have only found good sources for how the FDIC detects bank in trouble, tries to rehabilitate them, and dispose of them if they go insolvent despite rehabilitation efforts like this article at Slate.com and this paper from the International Monetary Fund. However, I have been able to find sources for how some banks fail like bank runs at WaMu and IndyMac, bad loans at Integrity Bank, and fraud at First National Bank of Keystone. I am having trouble finding information on how other countries handle insolvent banks normally, instead of how they handle ones too big to fail. I also have trouble finding reliable sources on what the macroeconomic effects of a bank failure are. Sure, you can find articles about how payroll accounts were wiped out at IndyMac forcing layoffs, but we are not allowed to draw macroeconomic conclusions from that microeconomic episode due to WP:NOR. I replaced the redirect page with a general definition of a bank failure, and am now going to try to expand the article by adding a history of bank failures and then a section that addresses general causes of bank failures. After that I'd like to address the handling of bank failures in specific countries. I understand your frustration with the lack of sources, I've found the same thing so far.
