Scope

If it's a continuation of the Siam Free Press, I wonder if they shouldn't be covered in the same article, even if the ownership and the name were changed. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:59, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Paul_012,

I've been pondering this matter ever since I created the Siam Free Press's page in November 2021 as both the "Bangkok Daily Mail" and the "Siam Free Press" are considered major newspapers according to the theses and newspapers' articles I found. I wondered then whether I should only create one page for either the "Bangkok Daily Mail", the last name, or for the "Siam Free Press". At the time, I only had access to issues of the "Siam Free Press" which I would use to extract a visual of a first page to be added in the infobox. I had already found many sources for both papers. Finally, I decided to create a page for the "Siam Free Press" with an infobox only referring to that paper. A redirect page for the "Bangkok Daily Mail" was created later linking it to the "Siam Free Press". As I've only managed recently to get an issue of the "Bangkok Daily Mail" and then to create a visual of the first page, I thought it warranted the creation of a fully fledged page for the "Bangkok Daily Mail".

On the other hand, this wasn't an issue at all when the page The Bangkok Chronicle (Sept. 1939 - Aug. 1945) was created since both the previous names of the paper, "The Siam Chronicle (May 1936- Sept. 1939) and The Thai Chronicle (July 1939 - Sept. 1939), and its last name, Democracy (Sept. 1945 - January 1947) were hardly ever mentioned in the sources I found. "The Bangkok Chronicle" on the contrary, was considered a major newspaper since it was the only English-language newspaper still published during the Japanese occupation of Thailand during WWII. So having one page entitled "The Bangkok Chronicle" with all other pages redirecting to it made sense.

Finally, the page of the Thai newspaper Liberty (Sept. 1945 - December 1956) currently redirects to the more famous second name of the paper, the Bangkok World (Jan. 1957 - Aug. 1987). However, if I were to find more information about "Liberty" I think it might warrant that the redirection is cancelled and that a fully fledged page for that paper is created.

As a conclusion, please note that I'm not an experienced creator of Wikipedia content so I welcome any suggestions of how things should be made. Even though English is not my native language, the very specific subjects I'm researching and like writing on (i.e. three bridges located in old Bangkok, Chaloem Sawan 58 Bridge, the first page I fully created in 2016, Phra Pin-klao Bridge and Phan Phiphop Lila Bridge and old newspapers) will have more readership in English. There aren't any strict rules, and things could work either way. If both were indeed significant in their own time (meaning each has potential for expansion with sourced coverage), having two articles shouldn't be a problem. --Paul_012 (talk) 19:16, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
