BLP violations

[edit]

This article mentions several living people as being connected to Balham. If they are listed here that information must be accompanied by a reliable source. Please see WP:BLP. If no sources are included in the article within 24 hours, I will remove the information. – SchroCat (talk).

That's fine. Please remove the ones you see fit for deletion and please list them in this section as "unverified names". Please also retain those that have been verified via the links to their separate Wikipedia bio/profiles. MrBalham2 (talk) 13:31, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's not the way it works, I'm afraid. If the information it not sourced enough to appear in the article, it should not appear on the talk page. (It's fine for most other information, just not the stuff that involving living people). Sourcing from other articles doesn't wash either: the sources have to be checked as both reliable and valid, which isn't something I am prepared to do as I don't have the time. If you want to re-add the names, then you'll have to verify the information separately once it has been removed, and then only re-add that information with a reliable source. Sorry that this has to be this way, but WP:BLP is one of our strongest policies about which there is little flexibility. - SchroCat (talk) 13:38, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia links have verified sources. So you need to delete the ones that are unverified. You can't remove names that have been reliably sourced. If you don't have time do not remove without checking. MrBalham2 (talk) 13:49, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As per WP:BLP I could have removed all of these without letting anyone know or without checking. I didn't, but chose to flag this up here and let you know. If you do not want to add the sources, that's fine, but the names don't remain without them, I'm afraid. You need to check our BLP policy carefully: it's rather stringent and goes slightly overboard, but it is there to protect the individuals in question, as well as Wikipedia. - SchroCat (talk) 14:00, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What is John Wesley's association with Balham?

[edit]

I'm not familiar with the neighbourhoods of London, but in unrelated research, found that John Wesley's final letter, written on his deathbed to William Wilberforce, was headed "BALAM February 24, 1791". Does Wesley qualify for the list of "Notable people who used to work, study or live in Balham"? Not Adele, or Bob and Margaret, but pretty important character...
