[edit]Firstly, I have to commend the editors who have been working on this article. It has a lot of merits, and it is evident that a lot of work has gone into it. There are no glaring errors, the images and sound bites are justified in their use, and the major formatting is great. Here are my suggestions:
I know a debate is currently going on about the naming of this article. That said, what is in the title and lede should match. Since the RfA's have reached no consensus, I recommend that the name in the lede match the title of the article until further notice. Since this is somewhat an area of contention, I was tempted to quick-fail the article, but because it has been handled civilly and their has been no revert wars (that I can see) I think the article should be reviewed. That said, they two names should match.
- A concensus was reached on the matter, so the capitalized spelling should be used in the title as well, which I'm sure you're working on.
- This is a run-on sentence: "A compilation album of the same name was released in Mexico and sold 150,000 copies[2] and was certified platinum by the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON), denoting sales of 250,000 units.[3]" Also "sold 150,000 copies[2] and was certified platinum by the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON), denoting sales of 250,000 units.[3]" should go in the "Reception" section.
- "principal record producer, A.B. Quintanilla III " -- there should be a comma after AB's name
- "exposure on cumbia music radios" -- radio should be singular
- Unless a fact is highly contentious, citations should come at the end of sentences or after punctuation (like commas). So, fix sentences like this one: "The song is an up-tempo[5] Mexican cumbia song with Tejano influences.[6]"
- The "Background and release" section has no information about it's release. I know this song came out some time ago, but the section should include information about the date it was released, on which formats (vinyl, cassette, CD, etc...), any promotion from the label, first live performance, promotional tie-ins with commercial products, etc...Whatever you can find.
- The first sentence in the "Reception" section should briefly summarize the response. For example, "The song met with mixed reviews from music critics." I made that up, but that's an example.
- The reception section should contain a paragraph that briefly summarizes the song's commercial success, including that sentence about how well it sold in Mexico. If the song won any awards, it should also be mentioned in this section.
- Since the Kumbia Kings version (which I LOVE) was also released as a single, I would suggest (although it's not mandatory) that an infobox for that song be included in the section on that particular cover. That section should read like a mini article.
- Did this song have a music video? If so, I would include a section about the music video in the article as well. If not, that's fine.
- I also recommend adding a Personnel section, perhaps cited from the liner notes. Who played which instruments, etc... It should be a list.
- The references look good, and are kind of like the canary in a coalmine of how conscientious the editors are. Good job.
- On the second reference, the Spanish should be italicized, and the English part should say "(English, translated)" with and "ed" on the end. It could also say "(English translation)"
- To be honest, the English translation is a little rough. It should say: "The reason was to celebrate that Selena had garnered her first gold record to exceed 150 thousand copies sold of her disc, Baila Esta Cumbia, the first to come out in Mexico.""
I"m going to place it on hold in the meantime until these issues are addressed. This article is looking good, and I wish you the best. --Esprit15d • talk • contribs 00:25, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
