Pronunciation

[edit]

How is "Bagot" supposed to be pronounced? In a recent episode of Pointless the presenters pronounced it /'bæʒəʊ/ "bazho", but that doesn't make sense according to either English or French orthography, and I don't know of any language in which it "Bagot" would be pronounced that way (or /'bæʒəʊ/ would be spelt that way, whichever way you look at it). — Smjg (talk) 17:06, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm reasonably local to the Blithfield area;, and am Wikipedian in Residence at Staffordshire County Museum, where there is a farm with these goats; and used to have dealings with Birmingham Nature Centre, which also has them. I've never heard them pronounced that way; I don't know how to do IPA, but "bag't" or "bag-ut" , rhyming with "maggot" is the closest approximation I can give you; whose pronunciation is /ˈmæɡət/, according to Wiktionary. References

[edit]

I'm thinking of doing some work on this page, including trying to improve the sourcing. If I were to do so I would change the reference format to the list-defined system – references defined in the reference section, not in the text – and to plain-text refs (without cite templates). I might do that in a day or two if no-one minds, but will of course leave well alone if there's any objection, however slight. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:08, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
