[edit]First visit by Europeans. What about the alleged visits by Greenland Norse colonists in 1266 and ?1135 Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 20:26, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- +1 The Davis Strait was certainly frequented by the medieval Norse ever since their initial discovery and colonisation of Greenland. Even after the failure of Vinland, Norse lumberjacks were still sailing via the Davis strait over to Markland (Canada) to collect wood for shipbuilding. Not too sure about the bay north of there, but I find it hard to believe that the Norse would have simply ignored it. 86.136.19.68 (talk) 13:03, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Baffin's voyages
[edit]While it's technically true that William Baffin made five voyages to "the Arctic" in the 1610s, the last three of those were as the pilot of commercial whaling expeditions to Spitzbergen and had absolutely nothing to do with exploration or the area of this bay. They're utterly irrelevant to this article. — LlywelynII 18:38, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

A "bay"?
[edit]I'm really surprised there's no explanation on the page of why this is considered a bay. It certainly isn't what the layman would think of as a bay. 108.171.128.182 (talk) 13:19, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
Atlantic Ocean
[edit]Baffin Bay is a marginal Sea from the Atlantic Ocean and not from the Arctic one. The reasons are:
- The Western Greenland Current makes its Gyre counterclockwise without reaching the Nares Strait, where sea water comes from that Arctic Ocean to the southwest, making its origin to the Labrador Current. Remember that the iceberg that sunk the Titanic was coming from the Petermann's Glacier.
- If we accept the above statement, then we can accept also the Baffin Bay is an inland sea or a Bay. --Fev 19:12, 22 November 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fev (talk • contribs)
