Name of article

[edit]

I know "Badhan, Somalia" may make many people defensive, especially Somalilanders. Since it is presently internationally recognized as part of the territory of Somalia, this title is formally correct. --Petercorless 02:18, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moved the article to "Badhan, Sanaag" to not offend anyone. Both "Badhan, Somaliland" and "Badhan, Somalia" are redirected here. --Petercorless 02:22, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Somaliland elections

[edit]

User:CabuuwaaqWanaag Badhan did indeed vote in the recent Somaliland presidential election. Here is a link to the official results directly from the National Electoral Commission [1]. Now please perform a self revert or you will be reported for disruptive editing. --Kzl55 (talk) 21:45, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That seems reasonable, although it does say "Degmada Badhan" which means "The Badhan District". I'm sure you know that Badhan district and Badhan Town are not the same thingCabuuwaaqWanaag (talk) 21:48, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It clearly says Badhan in both the district as well as the station name column. Even differentiating Badhan voting stations with A1, B1 and C1. --Kzl55 (talk) 22:10, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

badhan is located in the country of Somalia not Somaliland and specially it's located in puntland state of Somalia Mohamedhashi1 (talk) 02:42, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Somaliland being a self-declared state and autonomous region of Somalia is a well sourced / widely accepted view. — IVORK Talk 01:01, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Change Somalia to Somaliland due to Somaliland's control over the area Hilaac02 (talk) 22:06, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: The sentence now reads: "Baran is a town in the Sanaag administrative region (gobol) of northern Somalia, within the autonomous region of Somaliland". This is phrasing that matches the international status of Somaliland and Somalia. Goldsztajn (talk) 18:01, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced Material

[edit]

Hi @Shirshore:,

I have reverted to the article to the last stable version with the vast amounts of unsourced material removed. This is in addition to the removal of the indiscriminate gallery of images as per WP:BOLD.

Many thanks Jacob300 (talk) 13:52, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jacob300,

The Badhan article was stable [in this version] for a long time. Please leave it like this till editors add sources for the material on the article. Also the town is currently under control Puntland, thus not in Somaliland effectively. If you insist on adding Somaliland on articles regarding the disputed regions of Sool, Sanaag and Ayn, you must also mention Puntland's claim and presence in these regions so to inform readers properly.

unreliable citation

[edit]

Hi @Jacob300:,

Somaliland Today is also used as a source of information on other pages. Why did you consider this to be unreliable?--Freetrashbox (talk) 11:29, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jacob300:,

Your explanation is not clear. You are merely calling sources that are inconvenient to you "unreliable". Wikipedia needs to be edited based on its sources. If you have a more reliable source of information on how Axmed Maxamed Timir was elected mayor, you should show it.--Freetrashbox (talk) 12:14, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Relevance

[edit]

Hi @Dabaqabad:,

Since you seem to know so much about Sanaag, I assume you are also familiar with the current situation in Badhan. For Wikipedia, the current situation of Bahan is very important information. A cabinet meeting of the Puntland government was held in Bahan, readers can understand that at least as of 2018, Bahan is effectively controlled by Puntland.--Freetrashbox (talk) 22:21, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Freetrashbox:,

Holding a cabinet meeting isn't really relevant to the main section of Badhan, is it? Is there anything notable from that cabinet meeting? Is it significant to the town?

As for control, it is a bit fluid since no side fully controls Badhan, with both sides having presence there with their own government offices etc. Both Somaliland and Puntland have influence in the town and have on multiple occasions deployed troops in an effort to wrestle control over the town from each other. To quote a MENAFN article from 2021 covering Badhan ([2]);

"The Puntland Government has relieved the Badhan district police of their duties for failing to counter voter registration plans of the Somaliland administration",

as well as "'(The) Puntland and Somaliland administrations have influence in Badhan. Badhan politicians based in Hargeisa are committed to boosting their representation in Hargeisa, and enjoy the support of senior traditional leaders of Badhan constituency."

The police force of Badhan had also been accused by Puntland itself of being loyal to Somaliland ([3]), which should also be proof of its uncertain status and that the situation in Badhan is much less defined than you think it is. Dabaqabad (talk) 22:59, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dabaqabad:,

Thank you for the reply. My understanding of Badhan's current situation is almost exactly the same as your description. To add to that, Warsangeli is also sending representatives to Puntland. However, the current Wikipedia does not mention it, and neither do the other Sanaag articles. I would like to change that situation. It would be my pleasure if you could help me. For example, I want you to describe your explanation above in the text.--Freetrashbox (talk) 23:22, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Freetrashbox:,

Glad we're on the same page then, I'll be more than glad to help :) Dabaqabad (talk) 23:41, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

@Siirski, please revert the article back. Somaliland does not have effective control over Badhan, there are abundant reliable sources provided which demonstrate puntland's control. Shirshore (talk) 19:13, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Shirshore: I see that. I agree with you that Somaliland does not control a city, but the area is Sanaag and Sanaag is one of the Somaliland regions. Already I wrote that the city is under the control of the Puntland State of Somalia. Please See WP:NPOV

It is not clear that Sanaag belongs to Somaliland. In a recent BBC article (LINK), the eastern half of Sanaag is treated as a disputed area. If we explain that the whole of Sanaag is part of Somaliland, we need a more solid source than the BBC. It is also not clear that Badhan belongs to Somalia. This place has been under the control of Puntland since 2019, until then it was under the control of Somaliland.--Freetrashbox (talk) 12:05, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The page is lying and they are spreading false information. Badhan is not a region within puntland. It is a region within Somaliland. Wikipedia is known for spreading correct and accurate information.
