I've tried to wikify this, but it seems a little odd to say "only (my emphasis) Mezcal produced by the agave variety grown in the counties of ......" and then list about three dozen counties. Avalon 13:11, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was it really illegal prior to 1992?

[edit]

I remember visiting the "Bachomojaqui" Bacanora distillery in the early 1970s. It was pretty much a "moonshine" operation out in the boonies of Sonora near Huatobampo. My father bought several bottles of the bacanora produced there and I still have one of them. It sports a Mexican federal tax band over the cap. Seems rather odd that the Mexican government would tax something that was illegal.

This section reads pretty much entirely like advertising. The article could probably use a section of available bacanora brands, but as it is, this just seems like it was lifted verbatim from the company's promotional materials. Thus, I'm removing it.
