Etymology of the town's name
[edit]It is highly improbable that Baan Baa means "swim away" in any aboriginal language as the original citation from 1927 suggested. First, this source did not cite what aboriginal language it was referring (there isn't just one, showing the weakness of this source). Second, the word for "to swim" in Gamilaraay, the most local native language, is gubi-y, nothing like Baan Baa. On the other hand, baan clearly is the name of several local mistletoe species. The citation given is more believable as to the name of the this place, thus the change. Eric Yarnell (talk) 01:34, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
