[edit]Seems to me that the vasy majority of edits to this page are by editors with a conflict of interest (either BPP staff or editors who have only made edits to BPP pages)? 82.30.71.249 (talk) 07:59, 21 August 2012 (UTC) The article states, "In 2010 the College was granted university status and from that point was known as BPP University College." Surely the article should therefore be called "BPP University College" not "BPP University College of Professional Studies"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael19272 (talk • contribs) 02:03, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Racial slur
[edit]The last line before the References reads: "The University is also known for using racial slurs in courses while teaching student." -- surely this comment (from a disgruntled student?) should be verified through a source or removed.

'Insufficient' Ofsted Rating
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The nature of the conflict of interest ought to be disclosed by the requesting editor. |
Hello. I am requesting that the following be added to the “Academic Programmes” section.
“Following a 2018 inspection, it was reported that BPP University was the first university to be rated ‘insufficient’ by Ofsted.
Ofsted’s inspection focused on apprentices on programmes from level two to level five, covering the professional vocational areas: legal, insurance, financial services and technology, stating that managers did not have accurate or reliable data on apprentices progress.
The report also criticised the progress of apprentices as being ‘slow’, with assessors being criticised for failing to intervene in good time when an apprentice fell behind.”
All stated can be sourced to this article: https://feweek.co.uk/2018/11/01/ofsted-slams-private-sector-giant-bpp-for-being-unaware-of-the-slow-progress-apprentices-make/

Insufficient Rating by Ofsted
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello. I have COI relating to this in that I am a student with ties to BPP University and BPP Law School.

Thank you Hawaiibird (talk) 10:07, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- As I stated at the BPP Law School talk page, students are not prohibited or even discouraged from editing articles on the schools that they attend. The same cannot be said for employees. Occassionally there are issues with alumni adding material that appears as a conflict. But from the relationship you've described (a simple student) I don't see this as a COI issue. Spintendo 12:42, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- The report's findings appear to come from a standardized review which is done yearly. These results are not any different than results received in any other year — in that they are not regularly communicated about in the school's Wikipedia page (the good reviews or the bad). If passing this review was as important and notable as is now claimed, then the years that BPP did pass should be found mentioned in the article (which of course they aren't). Including the claim now would be balanced by some of the awards mentioned in the page, so WP:BALASP is not a concern. On the otherhand, as BPP is challenging the ruling as part of the review process, the report is, in a sense, preliminary. IMHO I don't see how Ofstead's review is noteworthy in anything outside of a newspaper, and Wikipedia is WP:NOTNEWS. But you're welcome to change my opinion with your reasons why it is. Spintendo 13:31, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your feedback. The article states how the Ofsted rating potentially prohibits BPP from recruiting apprentices (the 16 apprenticeship providers currently rated ‘insufficient’ are banned from recruiting apprenticeships till the next full inspection). This is wholly relevant to the subject, as this is a page concerning BPP Law training. I can see that this is most relevant to the BPP Law School page, though considering the subject matter and seriousness of the consequences; this fits the criteria for inclusion on the page well. Previous Ofsted reviews for the school would only be mentioned in relevance to the page, similar to the relevance of being barred from recruiting apprentices. I am happy for the content of the edit to be updated so as to focus on the potential ban, over reasons why the school was judged “insufficient”, though this naturally still reads as relevant as it explains the essential: the barring.
Perhaps: “BPP Law School currently faces being banned from recruiting new apprentices as it was deemed to be making ‘insufficient progress’ by a September 2018 Ofsted inspection. BPP look to challenge this ruling. All 16 ‘insufficient’-rated providers have been banned from apprenticeship recruitment until the following next inspection.” could be used instead? Hawaiibird (talk) 14:29, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Please note the following links which confirms BPP University has been temporarily banned from taking on new apprentices.
Sourced to Legal Cheek. [1]
Also sourced to FE News. [2]
BBP is also no longer advertising these courses.
Can this now be included, as being banned from recruiting for level 5 and below apprentices is entirely relevant to the page? Hawaiibird (talk) 10:45, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

06-NOV-2018 History section
[edit]The History section has been omitted, as it contained text which was insufficiently paraphrased from the source material. A list of the text may be found here. That material was taken from StudyQA, who in turn took the material from BPP's own website, as seen here. Spintendo 13:31, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
Proposed merge with BPP University Law School
[edit]I don't think BPP University should be split up into stand-alone articles, this content can be merged so that all the schools that are part of the University are described on one page Polyamorph (talk) 09:44, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
This seems sensible to me. Are you proposing that the final page be "BPP University" or the "BPP University Law School"? Hawaiibird (talk) 09:28, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- I am proposing BPP University Law School be merged into here BPP University. Cheers Polyamorph (talk) 13:11, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Is this the same as BPP Law School, if so it looks like a copy-paste move was carried out Aloneinthewild (talk) 21:26, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
It seems to me that one of the Law school pages (they're identical) should be deleted and the other should be merged as a sub-section of the BPP University page. Thanks Hawaiibird (talk) 14:31, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
- Actually it gets stranger than I thought, the more recent article was accepted through Afc by 'Frayae' who has since been blocked as a sock puppet. Not sure what should be done here, but a hist merge should probably be performed. Calling Legacypac in case he has advice Aloneinthewild (talk) 17:49, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping. I tagged the recently created (and moved by the sock) page for deletion as it is a copy of the other page. The title would make a decent redirect. I agree that BPP Law School should be merged into the BPP University page which will significantly improve it. Legacypac (talk) 22:31, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
Removal of listed law firms
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I am a student with ties to BPP - this is my COI.
I request that the list of Law firms be removed from the introduction.
This is sourced only to the university's own website, not to independent media, listing programmes.
This is promotional, not noteworthy in coverage to Wikipedia standards.
Thank you. Hawaiibird (talk) 11:56, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
Reply 16-NOV-2018
[edit]- The request is approved because the given reference did not readily confirm the information stated in the article.
- The various partnerships the school has with law firms may be mentioned in the body of the article if the correct references from the university are provided.

History section created, additional tidying-up planned in due course
[edit]Hello – I have created a History section by rearranging some content from the introductory paragraphs so the page looks better organised. I believe it will also make it easier to add updates about the university as and when there are key developments.
Additionally, I will make an attempt over the next few weeks to tidy up the other sections within this page as there is some content in here with outdated information and citations.
I would be happy to hear any thoughts and feedback regarding this from wiki experts.
Thank you.
HEwonk (talk) 15:17, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- I have completed the tidying up of this page with accurate citations and information regarding the university.
- To the best of my ability, in addition to introducing new sections to the page, I have fixed the citations, added latest available information regarding the university’s locations, its structure with the schools and programmes it offers, its ownership history, made a note of its recently awarded indefinite degree-awarding powers, and also included a section on the criticism it has faced from its students this year during the pandemic.
- Finally, there is a section on the unfair dismissal tribunal that I am currently reviewing. It is accurately cited, but I believe it needs updating.
- I hope this “refresh” is beneficial to all visitors to this page, and I welcome any feedback regarding this from more experienced editors.
- Thanks, HEwonk (talk) 20:19, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hello - I have updated the History section of this page. In addition to adding some contents to the Student Criticism section, I have introduced a subheading so there is clear distinction between general student criticism and those pertaining to issues during the pandemic.
- Thank you, HEwonk (talk) 17:23, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Unfair Dismissal Tribunal section
[edit]Hello,
There is an “Unfair dismissal tribunal” section on this page that I believe needs some updating/clarity.
The information posted within the section is accurately cited and links to clear news sources.
However, I believe the accurate verdict should also be included. To this end, I have accessed the London Central Employment Tribunal’s original “Judgment with Reasons” document to lend clarity to the case.
I will include a couple of lines directly quoting the Employment Tribunal judgment on this case from this document issued by Her Majestry’s Courts and Tribunals Service.[1]
Should there be a further appeal from the claimant or the respondent, and if there is a fresh judgment on the case, I will gladly make the necessary updates to the entry should someone (including anyone with COI) bring the updated judgment document to my attention.
Thank you, HEwonk (talk) 20:36, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Erroneous Article needs urgently updating
[edit]Alas this is a very poorly written and biased Wikipedia entry. A complete rewrite is urgently required as BPP University doesn't just cater for Law students. It also conducts a whole host of very successful courses in Business Studies, Healthcare and Digital Technology which have not even been mentioned at all. Shame on the clearly disgruntled writers and editors for delibetately trying to put a slur on the reputation of an outstanding educational establishment which genuinely cares for the welfare of its students. I eagerly look forward to reading a revised and balanced submission in the near future. 2A00:23C7:631F:5300:8D31:FACB:1FA6:FC (talk) 23:48, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- It may be a bit unbalanced now, but you can contribute to expanding the article along the guidelines for university articles in Wikiproject Higher Education. I will do some as and when but this is the encyclopedia that everyone can edit. (I started this article and have knocked a lot of articles about British universities into shape, but I have been editing very little recently.)

Summary of schools

Please could I request that the below information is also added to BPP University’s page to give more up-to-date information about the organisation? As with my previous request, I believe the information is factual and neutral in tone, and I have added sources for the information. Of course, please let me know if you have any questions via my Talk Page.

- Declined Wikipedia is not an extension of the university's website. If you have information about these different subdivisions of schools that is referenced by independent, reliable, secondary sources, that would be acceptable to place in the article. - Hi again @Spintendo –Thanks for your help previously on the BPP page. I’ve noticed another omission on our page which is, as previously, a non-controversial edit. The page is missing a some of our locations, namely Doncaster, Newcastle, Nottingham, Reading, Guernsey and Jersey. https://www.bpp.com/about-bpp/locations. Would you agree that these should be added for factual clarity? Thanks so much in advance.
- Separately, I’d be most grateful for your view on let me know if those changes are okay with the additional third party sources that I shared with you in the post above. Also I’m really conscious that you may well be busy on other page edits so please let me know if it would be better for me to post this request as a standalone on the Talk page so that a different editor could pick it up?
