BBC Alba
[edit]Why is "BBC Alba" being asked for a citation exactly? The BBC graphics and programming intros display "BBC Alba" when Gaelic programming is on. It's just simple fact. There is no citation, bar going to such lengths to show TV screen grabs of this happening. --Revolt (talk) 14:42, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Bbconescotlandidentnew.jpg
[edit]The image File:Bbconescotlandidentnew.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

BBC Alba or BBC Gaidhlig - continuing discussion.
[edit]I would like to draw editor's attentions to the discussion surrounding the BBC's gaelic service, and the names we should be using for the Gaelic section of BBC Scotland. JoshuaJohnLee talk softly, please 23:03, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Date of foundation?
[edit]When (and where) was BBC Scotland first established, as a distinct organisation? Google and Google books have turned up nothing so far. I have a vague memory that it was the early/mid 1960s. Does anyone have the exact info? --Mais oui! (talk) 04:08, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
- In 1968 Alasdair Milne, Controller of what had hitherto been known as the Scottish Region of the BBC, "rebranded" his area of responsibility as BBC Scotland.
- I wouldn't say, though, that BBC Scotland has ever been "established as a distinct organisation": it is currently part of the BBC's Nations and Regions operational area, but is not organisationally distinct from the Corporation as a whole.
- Incidentally, the "launch date" currently given in the article's infobox is rather misleading. 14 March 1952 is the date of the first television broadcast from the Kirk o'Shotts transmitting station: not the same thing as the launch of BBC Scotland (a name which, as I say, dates from 1968 – while its earliest roots date back to the opening on 6 March 1923 of the British Broadcasting Company's 5SC radio station in Glasgow). -- Picapica (talk) 16:07, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
- Have now amended the "launch date" to 1 January 1968, as this was the date on which the new Regional Controller, Alasdair Milne, is reported to have taken the decision to rebrand the corporation's Scottish activities as "BBC Scotland"; however, I've yet to discover a reference to a more specific "launch" date -- if there ever was one. -- Picapica (talk) 20:27, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Regional variations from BBC Radio UK-wide FM channels
[edit]Have removed the following
- In addition to this, some British radio programmes are replaced with local variants. The most prominent example is a regional opt out of BBC Radio 1, in which a Scottish programme using the BBC Introducing brand replaces a British wide programme - the aim of both programmes is to find new talent, the opt out features Scottish talent.
as the Radio 1 "opt-out" (on FM only) was withdrawn with effect from June 2012. Might be worth retaining a reference to some of the above, from a historical point of view. However, AFAIK there are no longer any regional variations from the programming of the BBC's UK-wide FM radio channels: Radios 1–4. -- Picapica (talk) 15:07, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
