Portals sound sample

[edit]

I think it would be a good idea to eventually include a sound sample from Portals (which could also be added to the Endgame soundtrack). I made a 20 second sample as a test, but do you have a suggestion for a good 30 seconds or under section of the song that would be best to include @Trailblazer101 (or to anyone else who may see this)? Obviously it can't be added here until the page gets out of draft space -- ZooBlazertalk 20:54, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been wondering about getting (or extracting) a snippet of the scene or just the audio itself, and I have looked around only a little bit to unregistered copies on YouTube and Vimeo, though those don't seem promising. The music video could be a good point of reference. I'm not sure if any of Marvel's accounts released any part of it online, though that could be worth a look (thanks Selvig!). I don't know if it's at all possible, let alone allowed, for us to somehow extract it from Disney+ itself. I'll see what I can dig up over the following weeks as I'm fairly busy, though I want to say excellent work on putting all of this together thus far! Trailblazer101 (talk) 21:08, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just downloaded the YouTube video and extracted the audio from there, then converted it to .ogg. And thank you for the help on this article so far! I'm kind of trying to fast track it to prep it for GA so it will be ready when it's time for the Avengers Good Topic nomination. I think it's just down to Avengers (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and Production of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame being promoted to GA, but they're both nominated currently. -- ZooBlazertalk 21:46, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ZooBlazer: per WP:SAMPLE, the guideline is 10% of a song, with per that table, puts us at around 0:21 seconds for the track. That actually is great, because we can use 1:40 until just after 2:00. That's the part of the song I'd use, as it's the build up to the "Avengers Assemble" dialogue and then into the previous Avengers fanfare, so this sample is wholly unique to this track. I'm happy to discuss other 0:20-ish sections of the song, but that'd be my vote. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:20, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Favre1fan93 That would work. I think the sample I made as a test was 1:00 to about 1:20ish. I like the song overall, so I personally don't care which section is used. -- ZooBlazertalk 16:48, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Favre1fan93 I added the sample. Let me know if it's what you were looking for or not. -- ZooBlazertalk 20:17, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah seems ok to me! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:27, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, we could probably add the Portals video as an external media file similar to what we do for the other MarvelMusicVero videos on the themes and end credits sequences. Though I'll see if I can extract something from the soundtrack. Trailblazer101 (talk) 21:15, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Meme categories

[edit]

Are the 2 meme categories even fitting for this article? It's not one of the scenes I've commonly seen when it comes to memes about Endgame or the MCU in general, but maybe it's just me. -- ZooBlazertalk 00:23, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I’m not a fan of anything that fandoms make jokes about being classified as memes, especially when that is neither the scope of this draft nor discussed in it, and I don’t think any such memes are worth a mention. I would highly suggest removing them. Trailblazer101 (talk) 02:12, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article title

[edit]

I feel that the title could be shortened to Avengers Assemble scene seeing as how it is a red link (or if we need a disambiguation then Avengers Assemble scene (Avengers: Endgame) would be a proper way of doing it). But regardless of that, WP:TSC advises to avoid using quotation marks when they aren't part of the work title. Gonnym (talk) 14:41, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A disambiguation isn't required, Endgame is the only MCU project with the phrase "Avengers assemble" (I think "assemble" should be in lowercase too?). It might have been uttered in a direct-to-DVD animated film or something, but those aren't notable. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:26, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would be okay with Avengers assemble scene, though I'm not sure if that is too vague or not. I think "assemble" was capitalized because that's how the DAB page is titled. As long as the Endgame inclusion is left as a redirect, I don't mind either options. Trailblazer101 (talk) 22:08, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the DAB page has "assemble" capitalized because all of the links are works in title case. InfiniteNexus (talk) 22:13, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I feel like that's too vague. Up opening sequence keeps the movie in the title for example. I'm fine with getting rid of the quotation marks though. I just had them since it's a quote, although technically it's the "Avengers... assemble" scene, but changing assemble to lower case is probably fine too. ZooBlazer 22:18, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Got it for both. So Avengers: Endgame Avengers assemble scene is the go to? Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:34, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That or Avengers: Endgame Avengers... assemble scene (if that's even reasonable) is my vote. ZooBlazer 23:39, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think either of that is an improvement, to be honest. Especially since both "Endgame" and "Avengers" are capitalized, which makes it difficult to read. Up opening sequence has "Up" in the title because Opening sequence wouldn't work, for obvious reasons. My other example the other day was Tears in rain monologue, which isn't called Blade Runner "Tears in rain" monologue". So I think we would be just fine with Avengers assemble scene. A hatnote wouldn't even be necessary, considering there is no other (notable) scene in film history where the phrase "Avengers assemble" is uttered. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:48, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another alternative would be Portals (Avengers: Endgame). The scene is sometimes called "the Portals scene". InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:50, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I originally had it as the portals scene, but I found a lot more sources referring to it as "Avengers assemble" while looking for refs. ZooBlazer 23:54, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Tears in rain example is a good one and similar to this with Avengers assemble scene. Gonnym (talk) 00:17, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then I'll go ahead and move the page to Avengers assemble scene after all if there are no objections? ZooBlazer 01:53, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus, @Trailblazer101, and @Gonnym (since you were all involved in this conversation)
Another alternative would be Portals (Avengers: Endgame). The scene is sometimes called "the Portals scene".
Months late on asking this, but should we note that it's also called the portals scene in the lead? Something like The Avengers assemble scene, also known as the portals scene, is... -- ZooBlazer 20:15, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That could be a beneficial inclusion, given the amount of times the portals are brought up. Trailblazer101 (talk) 00:39, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just curious, do sources tend to capitalize "portals" (that is, in reference to the song) or leave it in lowercase (in reference to the portals generically)? InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:25, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus Yeah, from what I've noticed, and after a quick Google check
  • Song = Portals
  • Everything else = portals
-- ZooBlazer 06:34, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I meant in the phrase "[Pp]ortals scene". InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:35, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, other than article titles, it looks like lower case
-- ZooBlazer 06:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lead bolding

[edit]

I personally am not a fan of bolding terms that were "made up" by editors for the sake of giving an article a title. Is there any reason editors feel "Avengers assemble" scene must be in bold? This feels like a case of MOS:AVOIDBOLD. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it necessarily needs to be bolded as it is not the title of a work, rather a descriptive term. Trailblazer101 (talk) 19:59, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with removing the bolding. ZooBlazer 20:19, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unbolded. InfiniteNexus (talk) 20:33, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We can still keep the text though can't we? Just not bold. ZooBlazer 20:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant by my first comment was that I'm not a fan of putting phrases that we made up in the lead, as it implies the name is "official". InfiniteNexus (talk) 20:43, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are clearly missing what the bold is meant to convey. The bold does not have to be an "official" name of something. MOS:BOLDLEAD clearly says (and gives an example): Otherwise, include the title if it can be accommodated in a natural way: The United States presidential line of succession is the order in which officials of the United States.
This article is titled Avengers assemble scene and it clearly can be in bold. Even the above example of Tears in rain monologue uses bold in the same way. I have to say, starting with I personally am not a fan and contradicting a guideline does not produce a good argument. Gonnym (talk) 23:06, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
