Avadana equal to what?
[edit]Is a Buddhist Avadana the equivalent to, say, Islamic Hadith? Le Anh-Huy 00:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- No. Buddhist sutras/suttas are in a way equivalent to hadith. There's no Western equivalent to avadana because they involve reference to previous lives. Peter jackson (talk) 16:42, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Proposed merge
[edit]Unless the material in this article can be demonstrated to be different from the Jataka article, which is much the more familiar term for narrations of the past lives of the Buddha-to-be, I propose that this article should be merged with it. The Pali dictionary says the term apadana can also be applied to the (moral instruction to be derived from) the lives of Arahants but there is no demonstration of this in the article. External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Avadana. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}

- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20051222063241/http://www.borobudur.tv:80/avadana_01.htm to http://www.borobudur.tv/avadana_01.htm
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.
