Discreet
[edit]in the description there is a section "Discreet was established in 1999 after Autodesk acquired Discreet Logic, Inc., and merged its operations with Kinetix."
while on the Autodesk site there is: "Autodesk Media and Entertainment - based in Montreal, Quebec - was established in 1999 after Autodesk, Inc acquired Discreet Logic Inc. and merged its operations with Kinetix®"
(first word differs)
A question: why does "discreet" redirect here? --Kallerdis 11:54, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
This page is for Discreet, which was bought out by Autodesk and renamed to Autodesk Media and Entertainment. Unfortunately, this can be confusing since many people (like me) associate the company with the Discreet name. Perhaps there is some way of making it clear that we're actually look at the "Discreet" page, not the Autodesk conglomerate page. Glennchan 02:22, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well it seems there were at least three phases that need to be clarified:
- Discreet Logic as a separate company
- Discreet division of Autodesk
- Media and Entertainment division

Merging
[edit]Ack, I started a page on Discreet Inferno without reading this one first. Also, products like combustion may have their own wikipedia pages, so we should link to them.
- THis page should be merged into a section in the autodesk article. It is fairly small and isn't even up to date. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.6.18 (talk) 20:29, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- IMHO it shouldn't be merged. (What's the harm of short pages?) Discreet Logic is a Canadian company with a rich history and a distinct entity in the world of special effects. It really has nothing to do with Autodesk's core market and history, which is in CAD. Check the reference section for more information about Discreet —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.37.141.122 (talk) 17:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Too many subjective claims, reads like an advertisement?
[edit]i.e. too many adjectives like powerful. or it's just phrased too much like an ad?
comments? Glennchan 08:06, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
"Editors benefit from ..." (reads like an ad to me)
The FFFIS line of products should all go on one page, like this one or a specific FFFIS page. Glennchan 23:07, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
"Academy Award® winning Autodesk® Maya® software is one of the world's most versatile..." If that's not from an ad I don't know what is. Alec 23:01, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Removing portfolio section since it's pretty redundant.

Categories
[edit]Autodesk Media and Entertainment is a division of Autodesk, which is based in San Rafael Californa and was founded in 1982. So none of the categories at the bottom of the page are correct. I don't know how to fix this.
Autodesk in Canada
[edit]Autodesk bought up everything in Canada and ran...(Alias Wavefront and Discreet Logic)
I dont think the discreet offices in Montreal exists anymore...This is all they have listed on their locations for U.S. and Canada. But I do know that the Alias wavefront on King st. in Toronto is still there (probably only research and development), but was converted to Autodesk a year or two ago.

- --24.37.141.122 (talk) 16:57, 21 April 2009 (UTC)this is an old comment, but it's also completely wrong. Autodesk's Media and Entertainment in Montreal is in the former Discreet Office on Duke street in Montreal where there are about 400 employees, and Autodesk's office in Toronto is still in the Alias offices.
Martin Vann
[edit]I don't think Martin Vann works at Autodesk anymore. His name doesn't show up on Autodesk's description of the management team on their website. Furthermore, Martin Vann's LinkedIn page shows him now working at Avid.

Random/creative history
[edit]Why does the company's history start with Discreet (another company at that time( and not mention their beginnings with things like AutoCAD? AutoCAD started rendering things that seemed to evolve into 3d studio and then evolved into 3dmax. I'm going to go see if the Facebook article says it began with Instagram. April 2023 (UTC)
