[edit]Removed some irrelevant text about Pauline Hanson and One Nation. Any attempt to suggest the existence of immigration detention facilities is due to the government placating One Nation supporters is surely not NPOV.138.250.16.16 16:53, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Coordinates
[edit]Has anyone exact coordinates for each of the detention centres listed? It would be nice to have a detailed view on google maps instead of a generral view of a nearby town. John Dalton 02:19, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- If that's what you would like, do it yourself. It is hardly common policy in any article I have ever read on Wikipedia. Mike Hayes (talk) 18:14, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Facts & Balance
[edit]A number of the points included within the article have not been appropriately cited. Adding to this the weight and lack of neutrality in respect to the controversy section, this article needs a substantial clean-up to bring it into line with WP policies. If I was an expert on the topics, i'd be happy to do it myself. But sadly I'm not, so i'll leave these notes here so that hopefully someone is can come along and improve this article. thewinchester 04:12, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- Best thing is to leave a reference/citation tag or two SatuSuro 01:37, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- The controversy section is not POV at all. I don't know what you are talking about. It doesn't take sides in any way, shape or form. It simply says that there's a controversy and what it's about. Mike Hayes (talk) 18:15, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Permanent Resident not mentioned- not a visa issue
[edit]Hi. I have a few questions about items that could possibly be expanded on. If they would be worth adding or not?
- in sentences "Australia's Migration Act 1958 requires people who are not Australian citizens and who are unlawfully in Australia to be detained. Unless they are given legal permission to remain in Australia by being granted a visa, unlawful non-citizens must be removed from Australia as soon as reasonably practicable.", there is no mention of other status of legal settlement. Many people from other commonwealth countries for example, are granted Permanent Resident status. With this, one is able to vote, work, study, leave & re-enter the country, get pension when retired, and many other rights, and responsibilities of being a citizen, but not all, e.g. some Government jobs or have Australian passport - it must be from country of origin. Is this worth mentioning?
- expanding on information about the contracted companies, and sub contracted workers at facilitates?
- Controversies / maybe a sub heading for brief mention of some systemic errors that have occurred with people like Cornelia_Rau,( link to wiki article) wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Cornelia_Rau
- Reports that other cases emerged after Rau in which people lawfully in Australia had been locked up in immigration detention centres.
- Mention some key findings of the Palmer Report.--Andrea edits (talk) 15:58, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Xenophobia is their sole Purpose
[edit]What I wrote should not have been deleted because the bottom line couldn't be any more cut and dry.--180.216.68.197 (talk) 04:22, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- The reference that follows where you inserted "whose sole purpuse is to discriminate against forighners" does not support that claim of the purpose. To add something like that, you need to provide a reliable source reference that asserts that is the sole purpose (or even one of the purposes). --Scott Davis Talk 05:26, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
I don't need a source, it's called immigrant restriction for a reason.--180.216.68.197 (talk) 05:57, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- I didn't say you need a source, I said Wikipedia needs a source. Have a look at Wikipedia:Verifiability for more information. There is nothing in the article about "immigrant restriction" either. --Scott Davis Talk 09:13, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Really, because are you sure, they're not the legacy of White Australia?--180.216.68.197 (talk) 09:19, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- The White Australia policy did not discriminate against all foreigners. It still permitted tourism and some (predominantly British) immigration. The IDCs are used for visa overstayers and other visa breaches as well as asylum seekers. --Scott Davis Talk 11:50, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Australia's border security isn't like America's relationship with the Mexican border but more like Mexico's own immigrant restriction with Guatemala and Belize.--180.216.68.197 (talk) 12:06, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
