Information on the 2/7 and 2/8th

[edit]

Does anyone have any information on 2/7 and 2/8th Independent Companies? The other six units have articles, but these two do not. If anyone has this information, it would be great if they could start these articles. I'd be willing to help out with whatever I can find out, but do not have any specific information to hand at the moment.Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 01:41, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Volumes V, VI and VII of the Army series of the offical history of Australia in the Second World War (full text available on the AWM's website via [1]) might have some information you can use. Nick-D (talk) 02:02, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The AWM also has short histories of the units here Nick-D (talk) 02:08, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have many reference books here on most Cdo Companies as my Pa served with the 2/8. I will start to summarise some keypoints with some background info. Also the Double Diamond patch you have for the 2/8 Cdo Company should be White Diamond on Grey Background. I believe the white diamond on the yellow was a Cdo Observer patch. How would you like me to get the info to you? Anzaccookies (talk) 09:35, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Anzaccookies, good spot with the Unit Colour Patch. From what I can tell most of the images are wrong. They should all have grey backgrounds instead of white. Here is a good reference: [2]. I didn't upload the original images (except 2/7th IC, which I believe is correct), but I will see if I can fix them. Regarding the information on the 2/8th, as this article is a summary article it would be best to add most of your information to the unit article, which can be found here: 2/8th Commando Squadron (Australia). If you don't feel comfortable editing the article itself, please include the information on the article's talk page, and then I'll look at moving things across. Cheers. Okay, I believe I've fixed the images. Once again, thanks for pointing that out. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 11:48, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Green Berets

[edit]

There is an ongoing discussion at the disambiguation page for Green Berets which is relevant to this page. The gist of the discussion is whether the name Green Berets refers exclusively to the US Army Special Forces, or if it is also widely identified with other special forces groups, such as this one. If you have something to add, please come and join in. GyroMagician (talk) 09:50, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Guinea Air Warning Wireless

[edit]

Thanks for adjusting the info AustralianRupert. There is so little info and knowledge about the NGAWW, even while 1 Cdo mentions them in their lineage. It is interesting that all the Independent Coys run a grey background on their colour patch as that is meant to indicate a lineage back to the 1st AIF, which only the NGAWW as a signals unit can claim. I included the original colour patch, which is "official", but there is a 43-44 patch that has the centre colours in a rectangle, not the W shape. I think there is more to be said about the NGAWW, but I will probably have to draft a page. Enderwigginau (talk) 22:49, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I need to find the reference that shows the NGAWW as called the 9th Independent Coy.....They were raised Jan 42 and given Ind status in 43..... Enderwigginau (talk) 22:56, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Completed and linked NGAWW page Enderwigginau (talk) 06:32, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Howdy, according to Lord and Tennant p. 15 after it became an independent unit in July 1943 the full title of the unit became "2nd/1st Independent Cavalry Commando Squadron, New Guinea Air Warning Wireless Company AIF". I know that isn't answering your question though, sorry but that should probably be worked into the article NGAWW at least (as long as its consistent with your other sources etc). All the best.
