"The first Soviet atomic device was tested on August 29, 1949" source: Wikipedia Andrei Sakharov. This is a Talk page. This is a suggested addition. Are suggestions welcome? --Wetman 06:23, 27 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted an item from the Events list - the alleged invention of chop suey in NYC in 1896. No one knows just who invented chop suey or even what year it was invented, much less the exact date. Even the Wiki article on chop suey, which the item linked to, cited multiple references to chop suey from the 1880s. PubliusFL 19:00, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit required Can someone edit this piece as it is not consitent with the article 1922 - Turkish forces set fire to Smyrna, in Asia Minor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.217.109.130 (talk) 05:34, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah Palin

[edit]

How is the announcement of Sarah Palin not noteworthy? This is the first female GOP candidate for Vice-President. Someone keeps deleting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.83.231.41 (talkcontribs)

The first thing that needs to be pointed out is that the announcement on this date is simply an announcement. She is not the nominee yet, although there is little doubt that she will be. The announcement has little historical significance. The second thing is that she won't be the first female vice-presidential candidate. The fact that she is the first Republican doesn't matter. This is not a milestone and it does not set a precedent. The announcement is certainly newsworthy, but in and of itself, it does not have long term global significance. Items that are simply newsworthy do not belong here. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:27, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please add "1981 – Gabriel Watt, American Hero" to August 29 Births section.

resources: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2002-11-19/news/0211190271_1_afghanistan-soldiers-mountains and a photo of the event in the article: http://www.photo-thompson.com/ssc/2003/03_bos.html

Thank you for your time

Candicevee (talk) 15:41, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Sorry, but per the guidelines Only the births and deaths of people who are themselves subjects of Wikipedia articles should be listed. Gabriel Watt does not have a wikipedia article. Winston365 (talk) 21:06, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"1941 – Tallinn, the Capital of Estonia liberated from Soviet occupants" I wouldn't call Nazi occupation as "liberation". The wording needs to be corrected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benadin (talkcontribs) 19:13, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Skynet gaining self-awareness

[edit]

According to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Skynet_(Terminator), Skynet gained self-awareness on August 29, 1997, within the fictional Terminator universe. Would it be appropriate to put this in the events section of this page? If not, could a link to the above reference be included in a See More section or something, apart from the serious part of the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonathon Hank (talkcontribs) 06:58, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fiction is not appropriate in any way in the date pages. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 09:57, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1st day of Thoth

[edit]

According to [[wikipedia]http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Egyptian_calendar]], the first day of Thoth is 29th August in the Julian calender. That equates to 11th Sept in the modern Gregorian calender, so I'm putting it there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Annasdottir (talkcontribs) 14:19, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Radio Adverts.

[edit]

Right: is it possible for someone to sort out the date of the first radio advert?

According to this page, the first advert was on WEAF-AM, on 29th August, 1922.

But, according to Wikipedia’s own article on the subject, the first advert was on WEAF-AM on 28th August, 1921[1]!

Can we have this clarified and cleaned up, please?

Many Thanks

Per WP:BIRTHDOY only people with there on article should be listed. "Being part of a group with an article or having the page that bears one's name redirected to a different article does not qualify as having one's own article." I don't believe that Liam Payne meets this criteria. @Scalhotrod: meamemg (talk) 03:33, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Meamemg, Ah, I was not aware of the "group" exception, my apologies. I'm happy to self revert if you have not reverted my changes already. --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 03:40, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
