Duplication of June 28 events
[edit]Most of the people listed here as having died on August 1st actually seem to have died on June 28th according to their articles.

- Yes, and Charles V was elected Holy Roman Emperor on June 28 (Not August 1), 1519. This whole page probably needs review and verification. Wait, yes this page definetly needs review and verification.

There were several pre-twentieth century birthdays listed here that also didn't match their articles, so I've removed them. Also removed the listing of Jack Kramer as being dead; he was alive and giving interviews in October 2004, after his supposed 2002 death.. I've also checked as many of the other events as I could; I also found a few that were off by one day, such that they actually occurred on August 2. I've also removed any events that specifically contradict their articles or other sources I could find; many of the remainder, especially for older dates, aren't specifically mentioned in the articles, though, so they maybe shouldn't count as "confirmed". I'm going to remove the {{attention}} tag; I'm sure I've missed some, but it's now pretty good. I transformed a vague Yitzak Rabin note to a more balanced, specific note about the Madrid Conference on October 30 1991. CDC (talk) 01:51, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)
On August 1 2002 The Minnesota Twins traded for Shannon Stewart and became a playoff contender.

[edit]On 12 Aug we note "1834 - Slavery is abolished in the British Empire" but on 28 August we note "1833 - Slavery abolished in the British colonies". My understanding was that slavery was abolished throughout the Empire in 1833, I think some colonies (possibly Canada) abolished earlier but this wouldn't have been every colony in the Empire. Does anyone have more concrete? AllanHainey 10:52, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
Citizenship Day?
[edit]The Wikipedia article on Citizenship Day says it's on September 17, not August 1. ~R!ck
August 12th?
[edit]For some reason, the list of births from August 12th appeared here above the August 1 births. I've removed them. 193.113.57.161 07:11, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

The link for Frank Herberts Dune novel points to wrong entry (Desert dune instead of novel). Correct link https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Dune_(novel) BFjeldso (talk) 04:23, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

- What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}): Please remove Augusta Read Thomas. According to the page on her she was born on April 24, not August 1.
- Why it should be changed: It would appear that August 1 is not her date of birth.
- References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button): No ref immediately available. The ref given on her page only gives a year of birth, but there seems no reason to doubt it. There is certainly nothing to support August 1 as a date of birth.
