What is a reference, precisely??

This article launches into its discussion of attributes (e.g. 'target attribute') without defining the basic term. Could someone please create a Wiki page "Attribute (psychology)" & provide a definition, examples & reference(s)? Then please link to that page from the first use of the term in this article..?

Stanley Smith Stevens - 1975 (Died 1973)

I'm putting a Citation Needed on this bit of Attribute_substitution#history:

In 1975, psychologist Stanley Smith Stevens proposed that the strength of a stimulus (e.g., the brightness of a light, the severity of a crime) is encoded neurally in a way that is independent of modality. Kahneman and Frederick built on this idea, arguing that the target attribute and heuristic attribute could be unrelated.

As pointed out by 72.89.183.47, Stanley Smith Stevens died in 1973. It looks like this bit of info has been in the article since it was first created in 2009 - and I haven't had luck with the citation, which is some content I can't access, re: Kahneman and Frederick. In fact, the only change in this part of the article since 2009 is stylistic, in the second sentence, which used to read:

This idea was built on by Kahneman and Frederick in arguing that the target attribute and heuristic attribute could be very different in nature.
