Miamis
[edit]Just because y'all bring it up in Footnote Note a, I'd just like to add my 2 cents on this topic.
I don't know who first decided to use the clunky state designations to distinguish between two schools that actually do not have the same name, but it ends up causing more confusion than it solves.
One school is UMiami. The other is MiamiU. How hard is that?
Neither is actually "Miami." That's the Dolphins, the Heat, or the Marlins. UMiami is in Coral Gables; MiamiU is in Oxford. I often wonder if the people who make these decisions went to *any* U anywhere?
When I first announced that I was going back to graduate school to the University of Miami, one of my coworkers asked, "which one?" I had to explain to her that there's only one University of Miami. That's the kind of confusion this "disambiguation" created. It actually created a problem that doesn't need to exist.
Again, I don't know who came up with this ridiculous system, but it's the same kind of short-sighted thinking that precipitated the "Y2K crisis." Kelelain (talk) 19:57, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
