[edit]

Need to add the facts that: ACPO has no official powers nor does the home secretary have any power over ACPO It was formed as a charity .

ACPO’s 341 members are police officers of Assistant Chief Constable rank (Commanders in the Metropolitan Police and City of London Police) and above, and senior police staff managers, in the 44 forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and other forces such as British Transport Police and States of Jersey Police

Unsourced material

[edit]

I removed these two sentences:

In a country without a written constitution ACPO also serves to provide a buffer between the state and the citizen. Through its operation it aims to always represent and promote the broader public interest and not those of any indivdual chief officer.

This material is unreferenced and possibly of a non-neutral point of view. The meaning of 'a buffer between the state and the citizen' is unclear. - Crosbiesmith (talk) 19:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Various changes

[edit]

I have made several changes, in particular because I thought the article was taking on a non-neutral slant.

  • The opening para had been changed to text mainly cut from the home page of the ACPO website, which was both a copyvio and contained phrases which are meaningless without at least further explanation - "is an independent, professionally led strategic body" etc.
  • I have removed various phrases that belong in a press release, not an enyclopedia "to come together to better serve and protect the public", "designed to better serve the public", "choose to come together to build national best practice" etc.
  • I have removed the list of three objectives. ACPO publish a list of seven objectives on its website, and the two lists weren't the same.
  • Some of the references did not really support assertions in article. For example a reference was labelled "ACPO petitions for changes to structure", but when I read it, it was a transcript in which the president of ACPO, when asked, said he was "uncomfortable" with the present limited company structure, and would be willing to debate alternative structures for ACPO. This is hardly "petitioning".
  • The sentence "Although organisations cannot voluntarily comply with the Act, a large proportion of ACPO's work is public already or available under FOI through any police force." appears to have been copied directly from an ACPO press release and inserted into the article as a bald statement. I have reframed it as a quote.

Privatisation

[edit]

The article says ACPO was privatised in 1997, was that under the Tories or Labour? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.45.19.42 (talk) 01:52, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Secret Society

[edit]

This is Duncan Campbell's shocking BBC video documentary series Secret Society (1987) which shows the never broadcasted episodes on secret groups, committees and societies that operate silently within British government: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joIVkHBa7n8 . Is A.C.P.O. a privat and secret Society?--80.136.61.7 (talk) 20:19, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
