Name

[edit]

I am almost certain that his name is Aslanbek, as that is a common Chechen name, rather than Aslambek. I believe this was just a normal spelling error committed by the Western press. --Yalens (talk) 19:13, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well it seems Kavkaz center says Aslambek too.... still sounds (and looks) funny. --Yalens (talk) 19:14, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If there is another source then yeah, but you can always add an alternative spelling to the lead.
Also can someone with a cyrillic keyboard put his other spelling in the lead as the per other pages?Lihaas (talk) 02:06, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, lenta.ru has consistently had him as Асланбек Вадалов (н is n, not m) in Russian. Like, see [[1]]. In any case, I believe Aslanbek is the real name, as that is a common name... and Aslambek... looks funny (lol). So you can go ahead and make a note...--Yalens (talk) 19:33, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thats odd...granted that cyrhillic source says so, but other sources say otherwise, maybe include both as a "sometimes known as"?
So in the lead or bio?Lihaas (talk) 06:18, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The lead. --Yalens (talk) 16:02, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In the old banner on the top of the page his name was stated as Aslanbek, see here. This is also the form the Wikipedia article on Muhannad uses. I will move the page. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 03:34, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Changed my mind based on backlinks. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 03:38, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Video source

[edit]

I have downloaded it from youtube when it was on there, is there some way to upload/store it somewhere? Wikipedia?Lihaas (talk) 02:06, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

some background info came from globaljihad.net which is blocked on here, granted it may not be neutral to cite ideology, etc. but to cite his background there is no reason to believe the details on this page are doctored to suite some POV. I was wondering if anyone had 1. beef with this, and then 2. we can cite it by requesting the exact url as exemption?Lihaas (talk) 07:34, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spam blacklisting is not the same as an unreliable source. If you thing the site has something relevant, use the source, just leave out the full working url. As to the issue of why globaljihad is blacklisted, that needs to be discussed someplace else. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 08:31, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay understand. So something like "globaljihad.net "Global jihad" (article title)", etc?
Doesnt matter to me why its blacklisted (seems for obvious POV reasons, though i havent browsed through to see myself). just found biographical info that this page needed.Lihaas (talk) 22:03, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can whitelist the link for this particular article if the source is of any value Alex Bakharev (talk) 00:46, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, that would be awesone. It is biographical data, which is there no reason to believe is of POV. No one benefits/hurts from that data.Lihaas (talk) 05:21, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have whitelisted the article and put it as an external link. Please use the link to reference the materials it is suppose to reference Alex Bakharev (talk) 14:57, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is ridiculously Umarov-centric

[edit]

Vadalov and his comrades were once under the command of Mr. "Emir of the Caucasus", but now they're not (and they both said "we quit" and their former boss answered "you're fired"), however it still feels like if this article is rather about Umarov.

How about actually writing about Vadalov, his views (expressed in the recent videos in which he didn't have to adhere to the official line anymore, and actually said about his reasons to break away, like did the others) and the current role in Chechnya?

I just made an article about Hussein Gakayev, so you might take a look of how I handled this, and this is still just a stub you know. --Asperchu (talk) 14:06, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and regarding the categories (and no, he was never a president), I just realized something... we need a category for the members of the Caucasian Emirate. (Something like the Category:Taliban members etc.) --Asperchu (talk) 14:16, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I had a look at your other article. Kavkaz Center is not a reliable source for the actions of Russian law enforcement. Neither is Memorial (society). On other issues, I agree that the article should be expanded. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 14:21, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
E...excuse me? How is Memorial "not a reliable source for the actions of Russian law enforcement"? Even HRW bases most of their reports on Memorial findings! Including the one on the house-burning campaign: [2] ("This report is based primarily on field research conducted in close cooperation with Memorial Human Rights Center, a leading Russian human rights organization, in March and April 2009 during two Human Rights Watch missions to Chechnya.", in the Summary section.) --Asperchu (talk) 14:52, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I started reading this article, and it's just horribly bad, everything about it. His nom de guerre (or actually, THE new name - it's just Aslambek, or Emir Aslambek formally) was not even mentioned? What is the meaning of "Ishkoi-Yurt village in Gudermes"? (A village in the city?) "He has been fighting with the Causasian Emirate rebels since 1994" - say WHAT??? ... Okay. You know what, I just lost all my enthusiasm (the lttle I still had) for having anything to do with this and the related articles on the subject. I would have write like all of them, from the scratch, and obviously I'm not going to do this becuause I'm not crazy (I would do this gladly alright, but if I was paid for this). This is so totally overhelming, even depressing, I guess I'll just leave it here. But let me say this: it would be better for these articles, even all of them, to be simply deleted, because now it's just disinformation and yet so many people believe what they read on Wikipedia. But I guess you won't do this, and this is quite sad. Or something. --Asperchu (talk) 15:21, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to improve it, feel free to add changes sourced to RS. Wikipedia by definition is alyways changing.Lihaas (talk) 05:28, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
