I am the author of the text that was earlier shown on the Wikipedia entry for "Ashok Gadgil" and which is now quarantined (and will be removed) because it also appears on a page at UC Berkeley's SouthAsia Center.

I have no idea of how the SouthAsia Center obtained that text -- may be they copied it from Wikipedia.

In any case, I wrote the text summarizing my own CV, and authorize it for display on the Wikipedia page. I also sent an e-mail to permissions-en at wikimedia dot org to that effect a couple of days ago.
